Anyone have any experience inter mountain arms rifles? I came upon a .338 that started life as a Ruger 77 but had been skeletonized, fitted with a whipped little barrel and placed in a lightweight synthetic stock. The whole package is less than 6 lbs. I believe they were located in Meridian ID and ceased business over a decade ago. Thought this crowd might know something about there rifles. Thanks

If it was Jim Combe he is a good guy. I worked with him. If not, Jim is still a good guy.

BB,

Jim has his own shop these days. Elite Rifle Works. He just did some work for me. Picked up the rifle this afternoon.

I swear he has one of those magnetic rugs in his shop that measures how much $$$ you have in your pocket. My bill ran $110, and I had $120 in my pocket. He always tells me he would not take my last few bucks.

Rich,

Thanks. I'm glad to hear Jim is still working. I remember Elite for sure. I worked selling guns out front when Jim was working at the Meridian Intermountain.

They were a well known and respected firm for some many years..

That said the last thing on earth I would want is a 6 lb. .338 Win., unless your a confirmed massikist (I miss spelled that un)...Its my favorite caliber but mine weigh in at 9 lbs. with scope.. old

My guess would be that the owner planned to carry it more than shoot it. Wink

Thanks to all who helped. I did have a conversation with Jim at Elite and he was most helpful. Have managed a couple of MOA groups(2 shot-too impatient to wait for the barrel to cool for the third shot so it wanders) with both Barnes and Cutting Edge bullets. Great to have friends to help
