Ok, I know there are lots of sites out there with ballistics software. I have tried 4 different ones and I guess I am just not smart enough to figure them out. I can't figure out how to change the zero of the programs. Anyone smarter than I am who could run a quick ballistics check for me?

280 Rem. = .284
150gr Nosler partitions = BC 0.457
Velocity of approx 2880 fps (avg from chrono)
Sighted in + 2.5" (inches) at 100 yards
Average elevation of hunt = 11,000ft
barrel length - 24" overall
Need info out to 500 yards at 50 yard increments. (Not that I will shoot that far)

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The JBM Ballistic program is the one you need but I'll be damn if I can figure out how to post a link to it on this Forum.

Anyway, using your input here's the basics

100 yards +2.5
150 yards +2.2
200 yards +1.4
250 yards +0.5
300 yards -0.5
350 yards -1.7
400 yards -2.9
450 yards -4.2
500 yards -5.5

Maybe somebody can help in posting a link. I go to the site, copy the URL, then go to "Reply" on the Forum but there is no way to paste the URL into the reply. Am I doing something wrong or maybe I don't have permission to copy and paste???

Hit the "Reply" button first and let it open a window. Leave it up and then open another web browser and go to the webpage that you want to make the link to;

Highlight the web page name, right click and hit "copy". Then go to the open "Reply" window, right click and hit "paste"

Dang it Frank, you make it look so easy. Roll Eyes I think it was you who sent me instructions on how to post a link but I cannot get it to work on my machine. Everything works until I get to the "Paste" part and then everything turns to $hit.

Well when you try and copy and paste you get all the data. Eeker

The zero heights is 2 boxes blow velocity
The Zero distance is 6 boxes down from height and one to the right.

As usual just my $.02

8 inches of drop at 500 yards didn't seem right so I tried running it at JBM; this is what I got. It's pretty messy just pasting it; the first two columns are the ones you're looking for:

IT WORKED! Don't ask me how or why. I think it was the right click that was the secret. When I left clicked the Reply window closed.

Many thanks

AZ223 & MC

I see why my numbers were confusing. I was posting in MOA, not inches. My long range shooting background is showing through.

My LOAD FROM DISK come up with numbers that are a lot different than Cheechako's numbers. I corrected the B.C. for 11000ft standard temp. and pressure, it changed to .633. My hights are 0yd -1.5", 50 1.05, 100 2.50, 150 2.78, 200 1.82, 250 -.45, 300 -4.14, 350 -9.26, 400 -15.92, 450 -24.21, and 500yds is -34.24". I got the 100yd hight by moving the POINT BLANK range up and down till it was at 2.5"

As I noted above, my post was in MOA. But even when I convert it to inches the difference is still more than 5 inches at 500 yards. I'm not sure if JBM changes the BC of the bullet for elevation. You just enter 11,000 feet and it does the rest. I did indicate "Std Atmosphere at Altitude". I also entered a zero distance of 275 yards which gave me the +2.5 at 100.

This shows that using ballistic programs is OK to get you in the ballpark but you still have to actually shoot at the distance to verify everything. At 1000 yards I am usually within 1 or 2 MOA with my first shot when I sight in at 100 yards using numbers from JBM. I figure that is pretty darn good considering all the things that can happen to the bullet while travelling 3000 feet.

Cheechako - I see my error; after I posted I realized what you were doing.

You're getting within 1 or 2 MOA at 1000 crunching these numbers? Wow...At least I know it's a reasonable guide for future use; I haven't shot that far yet but I want to eventually.

MC, running the exc. Sierra program I get this (sorry, couldn't figure out how to cut & paste from it):
100 = +2.5"
200 = +1.9"
300 = -3.7"
350 = -8.6"
400 = -15"
450 = -22.9"
500 = -32.5"
3-9/10mph wind drift @ 400yds = 7.6"
Good hunting! beer

Here's the results I got from http://www.biggameinfo.com/index.aspx?page=/balcalc.ascx . 25-yard range intervals.

Zero range is 275 yards. First figure is range, second figure is bullet path (in.).

Forth figure is vel. at each range; fifth is energy. last fogure on right is "optimal game weight for that particular energy level... (Very subjective)
