Thought you'd like this, if you weren't already aware of it... cheers seafire http://www.ruger.com/Firearms/FAProdSpecsView?model=7127 Also while you are checking things out.. ER Shaw and Pac Nor were already listing it as a standard chambering now in their barrels..

I see 3 models at my wholesaler, and it IS in a 1A Ruger!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Well, I would have taken a 338-06, but will settle for a 1A in a 338 Federal! That might be my next favorite rifle to carry in the field. Likely next year. I think I will go ahead and plan to order some dies and bullets soon, reform some 308 cases I have. It shows the Hawkeye... HKM77RFP338 KM77FRTG338 might be the scout..... and the 1A338 I bet Remington will have to respond, now if I wanted a bolt, and knew remington quality was back, and they did a say Laminate Stainless or Stainless Walnut in say Model 7 or 700 CDL or LSS, preferable same barrel contour as 350 mag in 20-22" WITH sights preferable-good ones, then it would be a good option for how I see this round used. SO glad I held off the Tikka ( you are right, the plastic is a turn off-regardless of durability-the clip bothers me, I don't want to worry about losing it, replacing it, or it getting damaged), sure it might outshoot the Ruger, but when you level down with a Ruger #1, you KNOW you must make the shot count, as I did with my 243 on the hog recently. Caliber matters not, you ALWAYS have to place the shot. I will consider replacing the trigger should I go the 1A....a Kepplinger set trigger like my 6BR. Would love to have a 6.5x55 in a 1A. May have to build one as Ruger just seems to move to slow if/when they might add calibers. FYI, the 358 will be also in the 2 above stainless rifles as well......so it seems in bolts, they are only showing at this time the stainless hawkeye, and what I assume is the scout model, in stainless. I would think a blue/wood 77 would be in the mix, perhaps later.... But, since I have an affection for the single shots, I will likely go with the 1A, hopefully a slightly heavier contour barrel than the ones on say 243/270 etc. Thanks seafire.

Seafire, it just did dawn on me, the bolts are short actioned, but the single shot could EASILY be reamed to 338/06 should someone want more power, and it would be simpler, cheaper, and likely better than say reboring an '06. That even makes the 1A that much more attractive as I MIGHT consider that option down the road if I needed something with more reach say past 300 yds, though I doubt I would take a shot with either much further as too many things can go wrong in field conditions where range is not always known, nor wind.
