I have a m70with a 26" bbl & a M700 with a 24" bbl. I just bought a 1st year Dakota M76 with a 23" Barrel. I normally use IMR4831 with my 7mags but have H1000, RL22 & RL25 to try.

For speed, the same powder that will give the highest speed in a long barrel will do the same in a shorter barrel.

For accuracy, there is no way to predict.

This is my way of thinking too...

Of the powders you mention it's a tossup IMO....pick one and try it.

What grain bullet you use will also be a factor.

VV N560 might surprise you - it is double based & some where around Re22 & Re 25. Expensive though.

I've found my shorter barreled guns to lose less velocity with heavier bullets compared to book loads than with lighter choices, if that helps. Try your favorites and see what the gun shoots well....harmonics will vary as well

Cheers,

It used to be common knowledge that you had to use a fast burning powder in short barrels..that common knowledge never could be substantiated on my chronograph..In the 7 mag and all magnums the slow stuff still gave me higher velocity, still does. I use the same powder that works in a 26 inch barrel or a 30 for that matter.
