Yesterday, I packed up my brand new MRC 1999, with Lothar Walther (1 in 10 twist) Barrel and McMillan Stock in .300 WSM and took her for her maiden voyage to the range. I had the guys at Hill Country Rifles stock her in their proprietary "Hill Country Classic" McMillan pattern stock, a real beauty.

With Reloader 19, I started at 70.0 grains and worked my way up to 72.0 grains in .5 grain increments and loaded three at 72.3 grains. I was shooting 150 grain Hornady Interbonds. My results were as follows:

70.0 grains, .75 MOA
70.5 grains, .50 MOA
71.0 grains, 1.00 MOA
71.5 grains, 1.44 MOA
72.0 grains, 2.5 MOA
72.3 grains, 1.63 MOA

I think I found me a winner with the 70.5 grains of Reloader 19 and the 150 grain Hornady Interbond.

I also gave WW 760 a try and it was not pretty at all. I started with 68.0 grains and worked up in .5 grain increments to 70.0 grains and tried three rounds at 70.2 grains. I had only one load, 69.0 grains that had a semi-acceptable level of performance and that was a group of 1.38 MOA. The rest of the groups were 2 and 3 inches.

I was using virgin Winchester Brass that I acquired when the WSMs first came out and this stuff is incredibly consistant in weight and thickness; necks run about .016 inches.

In terms of primers, I always use Federal primers and in this outing I was using Fed 215Ms.

While I was disappinted that WW 760 didnt work out, I do have a winner in the form of Reloader 19.

I guess one of these days I need to break down and buy a chronograph.

Willie B & owensby-

Wow, both you guys have either leapfrogged or going to leapfrog Reloader 22 which is interesting considering bullet weights if you are staying towards the lighter end of the bullet spectrum. I would have associated Reloader 25 with heavier bullet weights especially the 180's.

Willie B-

77 gr of Reloader 25 sounds like a compressed load for the WSM, is it not? Interesting, where did you find a formula using Rel. 25?

Thanks for the information!!

Well, I use 72gr of Reloader 25 in my 270 WSM, so I started there in the 300 WSM and went up. And, it is a compressed load.

I would reccomend trying a bullet in 165grain. Even though that 150 is a bonded bullet, impact on a shoulder at close range is gonna give ya undesirable results. The 165tsx would get my nod. Or if ya want to keep shootin hornady bullets, step up the weight. The 165 grain is in my opinion the best all around bullet weight for the 30 cal.

The 165SST shoots well in mine with 66gr of IMR 4350.
