Just wanted to say my old Pre64 Win 70 in 270 still puts em down like it did thirty-five years ago. Harvested my 50th blacktail buck off my family's ranch on the west coast this past weekend using 130gr handloads. Have used mostly Rem and Nosler bullets over the years. The last ten yrs have seen 130gr BTs over H4831, similiar to O'Conners load. The old 270Win is still a great cartridge in light of all the newer faster cartridges. HtgAtty

I agree with you absolutely. My favorite rifle is a 1951-built Model 70 270. My father bought it when he finally got his ww2 bonus in the Army Air Corp/USAF and it was willed to me. Has been responsible for more deer than ever were recorded, 9 caribou and a couple of moose. I think there were some black bear in there too before I was old enough to know anything about hunting. Still throws a fair proportion of MOA groups even though I don't use a bench rest, only a rolled quilt and a 4x scope (to simulate typical shots over my pack or a thicket on the tundra where I now hunt for caribou). I do use lighter, i.e., start value, loads, though, at the range as much as possible to save on wear and tear. And even some very light cast loads when I can get the bullets. Had other guns. This is my treasure. And sometimes I show off the SIX-digit serial number starting with a '1' just to impress the young'ins around here!
