Just won a new 8400 over on Auction Arms. Caliber is .300 Win Mag, price was $750. Think I did fairly well. I plan to cut the bbl back to 24 inches. Hopefully Matt at Hill Country can bed it into a McMillan Edge. This will be my lightweight .300. Already have a VXIII 3.5x10 on the shelf, will order Talley LW rings early next week. Doug

Why did you buy what must be a wood stocked rifle to only put a plastic stock on it? You could have just bought a new Kimber Montana. Maybe they are not on the shelf yet in 300 WM but I would much rather have the short action 8400 anyway. Join the NRA

Savage, for $750 I didn't think I could go wrong. I also HATE blind magazines, and don't care for a synthetic without checkering. I hunted with a 700KS Remington for a year, didn't care for either of those features. I'd been looking for a Kimber for some time to play with. This seems like a no-brainer. Though I must agree with you on the short action. Been thinking long and hard on either a .308 or .260 Doug

I have to admit that I would prefer checkering and a floor plate also. The blind magaszine does save weight however. I am a magnum and powerful cartridge fanatic but I admit that the 84M is all that I really need. Join the NRA
