Finally figured it out ,this is my 5 shot group, using 139 Gr Hornady SST bullets,IMR 4350 50 gr.and CCI LR primers .
I think with some more practice ,I may be able to shoot the same hole !

Double set triggers are a dream to shoot running game with once you get used to them. You swing ahead of the deer and just touch the trigger and watch him roll...but I'd get lower rings and less scope for hunting big game. I see no need for anything over 6X and I prefer 4X or 3X for hunting, especially if your going to take running shots..but Americans have a thing about big ugly scopes, must be a penis envy thing! Smiler

Try some H414 with a Nosler Balistic tip to improve that group..Its a decent hunting load but I'm betting you can do better, its not you its the load, you can tell by how evenly spread you group is, no flyers so you got all that load is going to give is my suspicion.

Thanks Ray ,The loads I am shooting came with the gun ,so I need to experiment a bit ,I'll try your recipe .
The reason for the scope is 1).I own it,2).I must be certain of my shots where I hunt, and 3). I like to take head shots, or neck shots 4).This is my sitting gun, for the evening hunt, more optics are great for me as the light fades .
The walking gun is a Weatherby Light weight in 338-06 ,and a Zeiss Conquest scope.3x9

Thanks again everyone for your input !

Time to Call CH-4D for dies.

You will need to install a Buehler or Timney safety on the bolt to work with the double set triggers and a lower scope, as the reason the present scope is so high is to clear the Mauser safety and the barrel, and awkward situation..

I would also take a chamber cast and be sure just exactly what caliber it is as there is a headspace difference in the 3 calibers that Rem used, renamed, etc. back then..You may need to fireform cases or you would probably be better off just rechambering to the .280 Rem and be done with it.

If I do buy this gun and the barrel is removed to blue it,and the gunsmith thinks it should be re-chambered,I'd go with a 280 AI.
Since it is not my gun "yet" I will not disassemble the bolt to see if I can install a RH safety versus the LH safety that is on the gun presently ....a Remington style safety would have to have a different trigger installed, which would take the fun out of the build .I have always wanted a double set trigger rifle.

It is an interesting rifle, and god knows I don't need it,but it will keep me from being bored this winter !

Happy New Year !

Jim

Why on earth would you remove the barrel to blue it?
