I wouldn't mind having a 9.3x62 also. It will have to wait awhile longer.

I'd love one, but the ruger bolt handle is so ugly. I have loved my rugers though and they have all been very accurate and dependable.

Mine is both.....a working rifle and a collectors piece

It runs ammo from the magazine to the chamber flawlessly and has a trigger that is crisp, with no creep.

The fit and finish of wood to metal is also perfect and the blue job is top shelf.

My 9.3 is IMO a rifle to be handed down for generations.

Like Ted, I too have a Lipsey Ruger Hawkeye African in 9.3x62.

I think I'll pick up one of these Lipsey Ruger 275 Rigby Africans. That should make a nice two rifle battery for African plains game hunting.

Add in my Ruger RSM in 416 Rigby and I think I'll have a perfect 3-rifle Ruger battery. Or maybe my RSM 458Lott.

Just reread the thread on converting a 35 Whelen to 350 Rigby.

Sooooo. A 275 Rigby light rifle, a 350 Rigby medium, and a 416 Rigby big bore. A PERFECT 3-rifle battery for Africa, all in Rigby chamberings.

Hi BaxterB. Well, I don't own a Rigby 350 (yet?), but wouldn't that be a sweet little thing to stick in the middle of my 416 Rigby and soon-to-be 275 Rigby?!

Let's see. A 20, 30 and 40 caliber, 3-rifle battery. Shooting a 140 gr., 280 gr. and 400 gr. bullet.

Yep, has a nice ring to it all.

You would have all bases covered with that battery!!

Just had my local pawn shop order one for me.

Not sure what y'all are paying, but I'm in for $962 + tax.

. . . ordered one yesterday. I wish Ruger and Lipsey would have checked with me before they made this. I would have had them make the rifle with a 26" barrel. That would have been the crème de la crème.

I was wishing for a 22" barrel!

The longer is more iconic and consistent with what Rigby made and Corbett used. Besides, you can make them shorter . . . tougher to make them longer.

Can't argue with that logic.

Got the call late this afternoon that mine is in. Was unable to change course to the dealer at the time so will get it tomorrow afternoon.

Let us know what you think, especially the quality of the wood and feel. I guess the wood is just a crap shoot unfortunately.

I believe you are right on that. I am trying to keep my expectations on that score low.

That Ruger African is the finest commercial rifle to come down the pike in many a year...I also like the RSI in SS and wood and it comes in some neat caliber and its beautiful with that configuration IMO..

Every one of those specials runs has been a great gun and soon as they sell out the price has doubled..I've owned and sold a bunch of them..My present African is a .338 Win, so far Ive held on to it, its extremely accurate and shoots all loads to the exact same spot so trying to keep it..Hollowell, and Lipskys sell the special order guns in rare calibers and combinations..The stuff dreams are made of..

If they would chamber the next one in 35 Whelen, I wouldn't be able to pass it up!

You'd sell me a couple or five.

Picked mine up last night.

Initial impressions:

Nice, glossy factory blueing.

Sights are standard off the shelf Ruger iron sights.

Wood to metal fit is good IMO.

Barrel band swivel is squared off, so a regular Uncle Mike swivel doesn't completely close.

Working the bolt, the action a bit gritty, to be expected with a new factory rifle IMO.

Trigger averages 4 1/2# pull.

Right side of stock has a bit of figure, but the left side has a bit of a goofy grain pattern and a couple of knots that didn't stain as nicely or as dark as the right side. I has a very, very subtle greenish tinge (to me) under fluorescent lights; I haven't had it out in the sun yet to see if this is just a trick of the lights. The stock is drilled for a regular front swivel (included in the box), but is capped off with a hex head screw.

It does have a slender, sleek appearance with its 24" barrel.

So, typical factory rifle with typical Ruger wood in an unusual factory configuration with an unusual caliber stamp. Certainly not a safe queen that I would be hesitant with which to hunt.

I mounted a Zeiss Conquest 3-9 in the supplied Ruger rings, so the real test is this weekend to see how it shoots.

Last year I picked up a new 338 WinMag Hawkeye, walnut, but "pre-African", without the muzzle break. $500. Those were the days. 2016.
Yes, it is about the nicest factory rifle at blue-collar prices. I do recommend replacing the spring on these. I've had two Hawkeyes occasionally mis-fire until a stronger spring (24#) was put on the firing pin.

My only problem in ordering a Hawkeye African would be choosing between a 338, 375Ruger, and a 416Ruger. Woe woe woe. I can almost feel all three in my hands . . .

Just got the call that mine is in. Will be November before I can get it because I'm working in Lewiston, ID. The long wait begins!!

Just called my local dealer and said get me one!
