All, I accidentally release the bolt-sleeve lock plunger on my newly acquired Turk 38 (Kirkale large ring small shank)... without first putting it into the "dissasemble" position (with the safetly in the vertical position). Now I can't put the bolt back into the barreled action (I have the thing stripped down), and I can't unscrew the bolt-sleeve. HELP!!! What can I do to fix this??? Shael.

I do not think I am clear on which part you're referring to. If you're referring to the little deal on the left side of the bolt shroud (looking at it from the top...), just take the end flat side of the tip of a slotted screwdriver and push it back into place. It should move backwards and then slide to the left (if you're looking at it upside down). If you're referring to the cocking piece, you can catch it on the edge a piece of wood and push the bolt down and then put a penny between it and the bolt shroud. Your shroud should unscrew just fine then. Do pay attention to what you're doing if you're trying to take the bolt apart - the webbing between your thumb and forefinger hurts when pinched... Really and truthfully, everyone that has owned a Mauser has probably done what you've done here at least once. Just remember, Mausers are remarkably simple. Just reassemble in the opposite of how you took it apart and you should be fine. Jason "Chance favors the prepared mind."

Two folks (on two other forums) pointed me in the direction of this article, which did the trick. http://www.surplusrifle.com/shooting/mauserboltfix/index.asp Thanks for the suggestion, Tex21. Shael.

I like the trick with the screw driver. I'll have to try it next time. Looks like it would beat hooking it on the edge of the bench. As usual just my $.02 Paul K

The old screwdriver trick works fine...but it works a lot more easily if you use a square-shanked screw driver. (Doesn't slip off the cocking piece as often when you are trying to turn the assembly after pulling it back My country gal's just a moonshiner's daughter, but I love her still.
