Fired some more loads through my new Model 88 .308 win today. its the one pictured in my thread , my .308s. Last weekend I tried it out , and had one group with a speer 165 grain flat base over RL-15 of 3 into .595. And had some other groups around the 1 inch mark give or take and eighth. Well today , I did some more shooting , and this time I used IMR-4064. While the speer bullet was not quite as good as with the RL-15 , the 165 grain hornady interlock flat base , gave me groups of .562 and .606 for an avarage of .584. Charge weight was 45 grains. I think I will back off .2 beacuse 1 or 2 primers were a little craterd. I am simply amazed ! I had expectations of about 1.5 inches at 100. I also shot some 168 grain barnes tripple shocks , and over 43 grains of IMR-4831 they gave me right around 1.5. While not so great from the bench , that is still a very good elk load , as I would not want to shoot an elk beyond about 300 yards with a .308 anyway. And 250 would be better. The only really bad load performance I have had with the old girl so far is one I did today with a 180 grain Partition , over the same 43 grains of IMR-4064. That load came in at just under 3 inches. There were some other groups fired that had 2 rounds touching and 1 just about an inch away, I atribute thost to the spongy trigger. I just might have to buy this one a real nice leupold. A 2X7 VX2 would be fine but mabye I should save for the VX3 1.75X6. Robco. I might put some factory rounds through her at some point, but I sort of cringe at the thought. Silly I know but that's how it is...tj3006 freedom1st | ||
