Was in the gun store and was looking through the hunting DVD's. They had the usual titles of various volumes and nothing really worth the $15.00-$20.00 they charge for these videos. Some can get at the public library for free. Then I spotted this: http://www.outdooredge.com/dvd2_elk.html Having grown up hunting and living on a cattle farm, did the usual dressing and butchering of animals over the years. But after watching this video, must say that it turned me into a field dressing and de-boning machine! If you are a beginner, or a seasoned veteran, there is a good chance this video will give you at least 1 if not 4-5 techniques to get the job done quickly and clean. The video is sponsored by Outdoor Edge knives so of course there is going to be promotion of these products. I do not use many Outdoor Edge products because packing in with the various knive kits they have results in too much weight and hip bulk on a belt. Still, there is one product I recommend by them which is the "Steel Stick" or commonly called a rib cage spreader: http://www.outdooredge.com/product_detail.php?cat_ID=5&prod_ID=9 This is a wonderful product along with their Kodiak 6" bone/tree saw. If you want to go really light, which is what I do, then belt packing a general hunting knife on one hip and a Kodiak saw on the other will work. Then cut a tree for the rib cage. I use the Original Classic Mora Stainless: http://www.moraofsweden.se/index.php?cid=268&ssel=157 This is a $10.00 knife but if sharpened properly, using Lansky products, then stropping to a razor edge, this knife is very difficult to improve on and will do an entire large animal per sharpening. Great DVD! | ||
