well I bought a new toy and love it it is a Weatherby Vangard in 300 Weatherby Mag and I love it. I set it up with a bushnell Banner 4-12X40 I know it is a cheep scope but will have to do till I can buy my Buris Eruo Dimaond 2.5-10X44. I bought some Federal Premium Vital-Shock 180 Noslers and went out to the range I was very impressed with the guns accuracy even thow it was a cheep scope on the gun, at 50 yards it was a shot in a shot groops so i moved to 100 yards and well a 4 shot gruop can be coverd up with a Quarter I am very happy with this gun it is the Black synthetic with bluded barrle.......
Dose any one know of a good reduced load for medeum size game I dont mind the recoil but i just wory about the white tail deer i am going to shoot wiht this gun and would like to get some meat back when done...I was thinking of useing 150gr round nose bullets or a 130gr Barns Triple shock bullet.....
I went in a different direction for a lighter load for the 300 Weatherby.
I don't have data right in front of me, but I'm playing with a lighter load of H4831SC and a 200gr Sierra Gameking BT. Should do a good job on smaller game without blowing it in half.

Can't remember my load right now but I use the 180 grain nosler partition in my 300. The lighter bullets are moving right fast in the 300. I think that will contribute to more meat loss. Has never ben a problem with deer and wild hogs.
Keep yer powder dry and yer knife sharp.

I have a Vanguard VGX Deluxe 300Wby that I like very much. In my opinion, considering that you don't mind the recoil, I would run full or nearly full power loads with the BarnesTSX before I used a quick expanding 150gr roundnose. I am more of a "one load" kind of guy and the Barnes seems to have a good blend of expansion and penetration without massive quantities of bloodshot meat.
I have a Vanguard in 300 Weatherby as well. I use 180 partitions for everything with IMR7828. It shoots sub 2 inches at 200 yards and I am very happy with it. Ken
Zeke, beware of using reduced loads of slow burning powder like 4831. In some instances it creates a detonation effect which creates VERY high pressures to the point of blowing up rifles. Although this is rare, it does occur.

Lower means low or mid Speer book loads.

500magman, I also have a Vanguard in 300 Weatherby. Two loads that have shot well for me. A 180 gr. Sierra BT in front of 76 gr. of H4831 with mag primer (Federal I believe) clocked 2800 and was very accurate. The other is a 165 gr. Rem. CL in front of 62 gr. of IMR 4064 which is a starting load in my Hornady manual(about 2600 if I remember correctly) but is very accurate and very comfortable to shoot. All are in remington cases. Hate to say it but the full house 338's and 300's give me a headache after 10 rounds or so. That's the reason I worked up these two loads. Just about like a nice shooting '06 in recoil. I did replace my orginal molded stock with a Weatherby pillar bedded bead blast finished one which is more comfortable to me. Hope this helps. Bob

I am loving this gun I decided to buy a cheeper scope to try out on it in the mean time while i wait for my Buris Euro Dimond.
So I talked to a few people and the manufacter of Lepers Scopes and bought a 3-12X44 with a 30mm tube it has a Ilumated Mill Dot and a 80mm side wheel Paralex adjustment it is very radical looking and it is a nice looking scope for $175 I was told it would handle the 300 Weatherby and was also told that if I had any problems with it I could return it for a new one so i figerd what the heck i would try it out ...well I love it I was out today with it on my 300 weatherby shooting 150gr soft points in factory ammo and was getting .375" center to center 4 shot groups at 100 yards with it The scope held up nice. But now i have the weatherby bug and i put a identical Vangard on layaway today in .257 weatherby mag. Has any one one here ever messed with the .240 weatherby mag ???
The Vanguard is a great rifle check into the timney triggers, they are on sale @ midway every now and again,...,very easy to swap out pull the stock, two screw to replace it, then adjust to your needs, and you will be amazed at the difference!

Oh yeah and the Timmney trigger is a 3 position safety not two like the stock trigger for those that don't like the notion of releasing the safety in order to open the bolt!

I've heard some bad rumors about the Timneys lately so I put a Rifle Basics on my last Vanguard and am nothing but impressed. Two position but it is easy to take the corner off of the safety that catches the bolt handle. I'd rather my son didn't have to disengage the safety to unload the rifle when he gets old enough to hunt with it.
God Bless, Louis

Youngoutdoors, what have you heard about the Timney Triggers?
My only complaint with it was it came set so light it would "slam fire" release the sear when you closed the bolt. I set it for higher pull weight and haven't had an issue with it. But disconcerning for someone who isn't experienced working on firearms.
I have heard the Rifle Basics trigger is very good also.
My stock trigger was very heavy with a lot of creep in it. any after market would be better and the Timney was the better value at the time.
