I am planning to buy a Heym SR 30 in 6.5x55 SE.
Now I am wondering about two things:
a) what twist rate do the Heyms have?
b) what twist rate should I go for? In EU the factory loads are rather heavy ...

Iam not sure what twist they have.
What are you going to use it for? what game?
I think I would like it in a 1:7.5 or 1:8.
I think either would handle any bullet from 120gr to 160gr.
European ammo tend to be hotter than american.
and If you reload for it that is just icing on the cake.

Mostly for roe deer, some wild boar and occasionally red deer in Scotland.
Distances usually less than 100 m; max 200 m in Scotland.

Mine is a 1-9" but if you're looking at the heavier bullets then you might want to choose the 1-8" twist

there is not a twist better as an other. It depends from the bullet you want to use. In most case factory rifles use a 1:8 twist rate that shot good the most bullets weights.
Use Norma or Lapua 139-140g bullets and you'll have great satisfactins with you gut!! That's for sure.

If you want to cover all of the possible bullet weights, go with a 1:8 twist. I haven't tried anything greater than 140 gr in my 1:9 twists so I can't say if the heavy bullets work all that well.
