Anyone out there know anything about sporting rifles made by the johnson automatics company. The rifle I have has the company name stamped on the barrel but I can't find any information on their sporting rifles. I know the company made the model 41 for the military in ww2. The rifle I have is based on a 98 mauser action chambered in 30-06. The stock on this gun is a european design, it has double leaf express sights a griffin and howe quick release mount and double set triggers.

I'm not sure if they made sporting rifles or not. I have a 1917 Enfield that was my Grandfathers that was barreled by Johnson Automatics. The barrel has the stamp Johnson Automatics Company on it. He sent them the action and they barreled it for him in .270. He stocked it in a Bishop stock he inletted himself. I just inherited this rifle last October and used it to take two whitetails and a hog this past season. I will say one thing, they made good barrels. This gun will flat out shoot. With the old Remington 130 grain bronze points that he hunted with I shot a legitimate 1" three shot group at 100 yards.

I had a Mannlicher-Schoenauer that was rebarreled by Johnson Automatics to .257 Roberts. When I did some research on it, I discovered that after Johnson sold his firearms business to Winchester, he set up a custom shop for himself that specialized in rebarelling/rechambering military rifles to sporting cartridge chamberings. Your rifle could very well be one of the rifles that went through his custom shop.

I have a 'Johnson Automatics'(marked on the barrel) sporter built on a 1948 FN commercial action. The caliber is 300 Savage. It has a Armstrong? receiver sight and a neat front sight with a mirror set at 45 degrees to reflect light up onto the bead. It is in a Bishop 'fancy' walnut stock with some fiddleback with period art deco plastic foreend and grip cap. It is a very nice rifle and may be the best pure hunting rifle that I own.

As I understand from a few articles Johnson had a shop up in the northeast and built sporters and did general gunsmithing work for awhile. I like my JA rifle. Plateau Hunter

This motivated me to make a couple of scans...that I've been meaning to for some time.

Is there any other interest out there in this kind of stuff? I can't get enough of these old custom catalogs, etc. Please share them if you've got them...maybe we can talk Saeed into giving us some space for this stuff.

That's a great old catalog. I've owned 2 Johnson Automatics customs made on commercial FN Mauser actions.
