I agree with Mark, eastern slope grizzlies simply don't get that big. An 800 lb grizzly would be much more likely. I'm not saying you don't get the occasional and rare mutant (and we all love a BIG BEAR story) but they just aren't common. - Dan

Thanks Snapper.

I'll mention that, next phone call.

I don't know where you find bullets for a 411...

However, the 375 Whelan, or Hawk, both look like a really nice step up from 06, or 270.

With heavy bullets, an emergency, lightweight, bear rifle.

Also, I stand corrected on the Wyoming Grizz size. I was thinking of the Alaskan variety.

Don't the west coast bears, oregon, Washington, get pretty big?

And, how big do the mothers get? From what I've heard, they get very territorial when they have a cub around, and, they don't understand the concept that it's our property, not theirs;-)

Hi Soc. Yes the coastal bears (black, albino, brown, grizzly, and polar) all get quite a bit bigger. A diet that has a lot more protein in it (salmon) and a somewhat less ardous chore to find food. Although, having said that, the largest black bear I have personally ever seen was in Manitoba. As for the property issue, well, there is some argument that they have the right of way. And as we figured the bears used to say when dealing with polar bears in Churchill, "Yum, humans. Slow, easy to catch, soft on the outside, crunchy on the inside, and they come with their own floss." - Dan

Very funny Dan;-)

I've heard similar comments from Coastal Grizzlys:
"Look, surfers!!! Dinner!"

I sold my 338 Win Mag (bear gun?) to build the 375 Hawk based off of the 9.3X62 case. This case has a shorter neck and was improved from the start. I can now shoot the .375 dia 250 grain bullet at 2700 fps in an 06 length action. Great cartridge.

Z-Hat does not sell bullets for the .411 Hawk, but you can find Barns, Hawk and Northfork to name a few and Woodleigh also.
