Go with the 338-378... No squirrel safe within 1200 yards

Congrats, I know you'll like it.....

Only one problem I see. That Weatherby, especially if it is your first will only make you want another.
With a handle like Big Bore Boar, sounds like a .416 to me. CONGRATS on the rifle!!

Big Bore Boar HunterI thought seriously about the 338-378, they actually had one on the shelf, but practicality won out as this will be primarily a hunting gun, the 340 is much more controllable sans brake.
As for the Big Bore, that comes from the 458 win mag, 375 H&H mag, or 454 casull that sees regular duty on hog cleansing.
Evidently there has been a run on the Accumarks, there was only one in the distributor chain.

krakyJust a reminder that you don't have to pay a fortune for brass. Get a tapered expander ball and some imperial sizing wax and you can neck up the cheaper remington 300 wby brass. The 340 is an awsome caliber!!

Big Bore Boar HunterIt showed up at the local gun shop and in 8 days (after the mandatory communist appeasement period) I can pick it up. I opted for a Leupold MkIV M1 3-10 on the top.
Kraky, thanks for the tip on the rem brass! That Norma brass is wonderful but pricey.

Or you can neck down 375 H&H brass. When fireformed you'll gain a bit of case capacity as well.

BaDonkaDonkHey Guy's I'm just new here but... You just spent really good money on a great gun, don't cheap out on brass, buy new .340 brass, reload it and carry on.
You don't have to be the best shot....Just the last shot.

Big Bore Boar HunterBaDD,
Luckily I am at a point in my life where I don't have to be frugral on Brass, but everyone has made some good points.
The 340 Wby shares the same brass as the 300 Wby, both of which owe there existence to the 375 H&H. It is cool to see some of the wildcatters rounds make it into the mainstream.
John
I always used WW .375 brass for my 340s. Certainly nothing wrong with factory though.
