I’d like to hear your experiences with this cartridge. I find myself wanting one.

Only the best medium game cartridge up to 150-175 yards ever made.
It used to be the go to deer and black bear round in the woods, before the young guys thought it was too old, being develop;ed in 1906. I have built a few bolt actions for it, and then it is a 9x49.
Winchester even made the Model 70 for it and they are very rare.
I have a couple for sale; PM me if interested. No Model 70s.

I was thinking I’d pick up a few Marlins. Never owned the cartridge.

I’ll 2nd what DPCD said.

I’ve killed a couple hundred deer with it out of my Marlin 336 and have no complaints.

One of my friends gifted me some hard cast Keith style bullets he had cast years ago. They were some of the best awesome performers on deer and bear. I wish I knew the mold he used.

I had one in an old Marlin 336. I got a wild hair and rechambered the barrel with a 356 reamer before even shooting it. It shoots great as a 356!

The cartridge has a cult following among Encore single shot pistol owners with 14-16 inch barrels.

Here’s my 35 Rem that dpcd did for me. My plans to make it a Mannlicher did not pan out. I use it with cast bullets only.

It has a cult following in my family. Marlin 336, Savage 170, and Remington 141 (I think its 141).

I used it to kill one buck. I had set my Dad on a new clear cut and left my 25-06 with him. I ended up with my Grandfather's (he is responsible for the love affair my fam has with the 35 Rem) Remington 141 and some POS scope my Dad had on it. Gramps had a classic 7/8 tube post and cross hair Weaver on it.

I sat down in the woods and a buck walked by. I hit it hard, it took a jump and all I could see was the white vee of a tucked in tail. I wanted to hit it at the base of the tail and that wonderful Chinese Tasco could not pick it up. It took a couple of more jumps and grunted, twice. The woods were frosted dry leaves. He could get away by going straight away, any other direction would offer a shot. I sat until I had to cough, gathered myself up and was striding toward him when I coughed. He was dead as a post.

I was standing next to my youngest son when he shot his first buck. He has a Savage 170, I thought he missed as I saw dead leaves jump beyond the buck. We were above the buck and he was in front of a steep little hogsback. The first jump confirmed I was wrong and the buck was dead on its feet. Flopped in four jumps.

Those are my personal experiences with the cartridge. It kills deer dead when used within the distance limitations. It has been stated 150 to 200 yards. My experience is less than a hundred.

It has been historically used by some deceased, famous western houndsmen. Its a great cartridge when used within its limitations.

Hard hitting, light recoil, fast handling. Ammo is pretty easy to find. I reloaded some 200gr Hornady round nose, then shot some Leverevolution. I decided that I couldn't load a round better than these results, so I just bought about 4 boxes of the same lot.

I ended up with a Marlin 336 in 35 Rem that came in a package deal. Thought I would play with it before I passed it on. Couldn't believe how accurate this little lever action rifle is. Thought about a couple blinds I like to sit in during nasty weather in deer season and thought I will at least try it. Worked up some test loads with 200 gr Hornady RN bullets. Shot a couple deer. Performance is all out of proportion to the on paper foot /lbs of energy. A big hole in and usually out lets out lots of blood and deer don't go far and very little blood shot meat. This is still a very useful cartridge

I had always wanted one, when my local dealer (think enabler) told me he had a pristine 1970s vintage 336 coming in with a bunch of guns from an estate. That was a couple of weeks ago, I just mounted a 1x4 Leupold on it, bought a box of the Lever Revolution ammo, and plan to shoot it this weekend.

A Marlin 336 in 35 Remington was the first centerfire rifle I ever bought.
I was 12 and had cut lawns all summer and saved my money. Told my Dad to take me to K-Mart where I had been eyeing one for a while. Got my Dad to buy it and if I recall correctly I paid $112.00 for it with tax. Topped it with a Weaver Marksman 4x that I bought at Sky City for $20 on sale. I've use mine to kill quite a few deer, a bear and several hogs. Never have shot it over 100 yds.,...haven't needed to. Its a great killer for its size. Everyone should have one.

No doubt its a good enough deer rifle in the brush..but certainly isn't kin to the second coming and long way from the best choice, I much prefer the 348 Win and 358 Win, because its a better caliber than the 35 REm.., but then so is the 30-30! stir sofa

Can’t argue that the 35 Rem is at the bottom of the Ballistic barrel of 35 caliber rifle cartridges but I was more interested in it from a historical perspective.

In that case a Marlin is the one to consider as well as a used Rem 760 or similar pump......the Marlin is the only firearm currently chambered for the .35 Remington.....but it's not a Remington.....

To find one of the original semi autos in .35 Rem might be a bit tough.....was it the M-8?.....a Browning design.....

It was the Model 8 and the later Model 81. I've seen a few nice ones in .30 and .35 Rem, but never acquired or fired one.

I cut a 336 back to 16" barrel and 2/3 mag of that length. Best cedar swamp gun you could ask for. Loaded with H335 and a 200 grn horn at 2260 fps it gives very little to a factory 358.
I did another, just for kicks, in a carcano 22" barrel. Throated it for 200 grn spritzers, and runs at 2340 fps with the same H335 load as the marlin. I think I have more into the bunch of clips then I do the parts gun!

I had a Rem 81; they are recoil operated and have a barrel jacket; the barrel moves inside about two inches back and forth. Lots of fun. They are true take down rifles too.

I would love to have a mod. 8 in a 300 Savage, they are a fun gun..heavy as hell but easy on the shoulder and cheek..Id like one of those old lyman tang peeps on it...Maybe some day I'll stumble onto one...When I find them they are not to expensive, around $375. for a decent one..Hard to find in 300 Savage or 35 Rem. the 30 Rem. and 32 Rem seems to dominate..and a 25 Rem would be a dandy to snag..

After the funeral in which I was asked to be a pall bearer for an old Gentleman friends Wife, he gifted me with her dads rifle, a 1950ish 336 Marlin un 35 Remington, I was so grateful I told the old Gent it would be the only rifle I hunted with that coming fall.
I quickly ordered dies, brass and 220gr Speer bullets, [possible nilgai was on the menu for that year] and some leverevolution powder, carefully worked the big Speers up to 2175 fps and went to the bench.
The rifle zeroed very easily, 200 yard max range hunting accuracy was more than good enough, through the old gloss 1.5-5 Leupold with the Premier reticle I zeroed 3 inches high at 100, it re-zores at 175 yards and is 2 inches low at 200 yards.
With that rifle I shot a heavy 8pt buck that had bedded with a doe that was tired of running at 156 yards, the bullet plowed through both shoulders and smacked the hell out of the White oak tree beside him, he never got up.
Two good sized pigs didn't slow the bullet down either, as did a couple doe deer I shot for some folk I knew that could use the meat.
Complete penetration on all animals, with some at less than ideal angles, it didn't matter, pick your path to the vitals and let her go.
I've never shot a grizz or moose, but imho I would hunt ANY U.S. game inside 200 yards with that combo, a no nonsense equal opportunity destroyer.
