Anyone else have floor plates open when you work the bolt?

Going to call Ruger in the AM.

I own 5 Rugers and that has never happened. Sometime if the mag box isn't aligned perfectly, the floor plate will stick and you will have trouble open and closing the floor plate.

I had a 9.3 Ruger that had a terrible fitted floorplate. There was a good 1/8 gap that you could see light through. I called Ruger and they sent me box to return the gun. Two weeks later it was back with a floorplate that fit well.

YES! I currently own a Hawkeye in .35 Whelen that drove me to drink. If the screws were not tighten in a specific order the floor plate would not latch properly, or would fly open on the first shot. What I found was the inletting of the trigger guard was too deep. Ended up epoxing a strip of a credit card in the trigger guard and never had another problem with the floor plate . At least 300 rounds fired without a problem.

Ive never had the problem but if I did I would fix it..it has to be stock fit mostly and sometimes just a little removal of finish can fix it..on rare occasions it can be in the latch, but again that's most always fixable with a stronger spring or a bit of tweaking and polishing or both..

Its just not that complicated, but its easy to get past inspection as that sort of thing seldom shows up on the assembly line or even during testing, if it does they certainly fix it prior to shipment.

My Brothers 458 had a problem that everytime it was fired the floorplate would pop open. Jeffeoso graciously sent me a stronger latch spring and it solved the problem.

Got fixed by calling Ruger and they suggested a certain tightening regimen of front screw 85 inch pounds, all the rest tight then back off 1/4 turn.

When the screws are tightened correctly, notice the leading edge of the trigger guard, the latch will be completely flush with the guard.if the latch is not flush it will spring open on the first shot.

A stronger spring will work, but everyone also needs to understand that this, and all floorplates that aren't attached to the trigger guard, are moveable and somewhat adjustable. Be careful how you position it within the latch button, before you tighten the screws. It can be moved side to side and forward and backward, even with the Ruger angled screw.
