Research tells me the classic powders for the .270 are H4831 and H4350. Barnes shows their 130 gr. TSX at 3200 fps with RL19. Fast. I like fast, if it's accurate. Anyone have any experience with this combination? I have read velocities fluctuate by a fair margin depending on ambient temperatures with RL19. True?

I have read about that load also. I don't know if I ever tried RL-19 in the .270 but I am sure it is a likly candidate. RL-19 is very versital nd is worth a try in any case that works well with 4350s and 4831s. 3200 seems a little optimistic, but if you have a 24 inch barrel it might happen. But 3100 should be real good too. No critter would ever know the difference. If you try it please post on the results as i have just aquired an old .270 and have not shot it yet. starting with old Jacks load minus 1 grain for startes. Using hornady and sierra 130s...tj3006 freedom1st

I have found rl-19 not to be as accurate as rl22 in the 270 with 130 gr bullets. But every rifle is different. John

RL22 is just a whisper slower in the burn rate chart in comparison with H4831 and a lot of lads have found a home with H4831 with the .270 and 130 grainers, including me.

Exactly, I've shot a 270 for over 30 years with 130g Noslers and 150g Noslers. I use Rem cases, Rem 9 1/2 M (magnum) primers and H4831. I get 3000 fps with the 150 grain Noslers, 3130 fps with the 130g Noslers, so I just settled on the 150 grainers about 20 years ago. Both will shoot 3 shot groups with all bullet holes touching. Hard to go wrong with a 270 and H4831 ... Chuck Regards, Chuck "There's a saying in prize fighting, everyone's got a plan until they get hit" Michael Douglas "The Ghost And The Darkness"

I'm running RL19 in my .270 Win, 130 grain Hornaday bullet, at just a little over 3000 fps. 19" barrel M700 Rem, over a crony. I've found RL19 to be a little more consistent and accurate in my rifle than IMR4831, although 4831 is a great powder. Shotgun

Reloader 19 is more temperature sensitive than 4831 in my experience. 4831 just works. The only easy day is yesterday!

Has anyone tried the new RL-17 in 270 yet? RL-17 is an extreme type powder. I just bought a can but haven't had time to try it out yet.

I have used the following load for the past 10-12 years for my 270's. 1) Win brass; Rem 9 1/2; 62 gr RL 22; 130 NP or accubond; 3230 FPS 22 or 24" barrel 2) I drop down 1/2 gr to 61.5 of RL 22 for my Pre 64 featherweight; taking care of the old girl! but it shoots about 3180 FPS. Both are very accurate loads and show no signs of pressure. The current Hornady manual lists 62 gr of RL 22 as a max loading for 130 gr bullet. These loads fill up the cases and some what compressed. RL-19 is the most accurate powder I've tried so far in my 22" sporter weight barreloed Howa 270. shoots around .6" @ 100yds, settled on a mild load producing around 2900fps (sorry, don't have the load data in front of me right now). Did the trick in Wyoming last October on a 400+ yd antelope buck, a 200 yd antelope buck, and a 250-ish yard mulie doe. IMO, you don't have to push the 270 to max velocities to accomplish the task on mid-sized thin skinned game, but if you want to, RL-19 should get you up in the 3000-3100fps range fairly easily. Try the RL-19, you might like it! "Trust in the Lord with all your heart. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will direct your paths."
