I'm asking for a mate, who shoots a blaser in 7mmX64 who is thinking about getting a barrel in 7mm REMMAG. What speeds are you getting with 140-150 gr bullets in your blaser?? Is it possible to get the same velocities out of a blaser as normal bolt action?? "Never in the field of human conflict was so much owed by so many to so few." Sir Winston Churchill

TP, I have not chronoed any 7mm Rem Mag loads from a Blaser. But in principle, you should be able to get the same speed from an R93 barrel, as you might from any other barrel of like length. The Blaser is proofed to the exact same pressure levels as any other rifle in 7mm Rem Mag, and it comes with a 25.5" barrel (this is fairly recent, the "short" magnums used to come with 24" barrels). Naturally, with any (factory) rifle, you'll have to deal with the uncertainties of the speeds you can actually get out of the rifle. A lot of that will depend on how willing you are to try out different powders and loads. I have had Blaser barrels, which were pretty close to "book velocities", and I have had some which fell short by quite a bit. This is a bit of a lottery. Just a personal opinion, if I owned a 7x64, I doubt I would personally bother with the 7mm Rem Mag. Just this weekend, I talked to a hunting colleague of mine, who has both calibers in his R93 setup. He used to use the 7mm Rem Mag for mountain hunting, but said he had switched back to the 7x64 even for this application. Reason: the practical advantage of the 7mm Rem Mag was not significant enough to deal with the extra noise, recoil, reduced barrel life etc. Now, your friend may have other reasons for wanting to change calibers, but don't expect the world in terms of improved performance. - mike ********************* The rifle is a noble weapon... Federal 160 grain TBBC load went 2950 in my Blaser. Very, very accurate load, but not much more oomph than a good 150 grain 270 load IMO.

You might also want to ask this question over at BlaserPro.com, their are several 7mmRemMag and 7mmx64 shooters over there who might be able to answer this in detail.

There's too little difference between a 7x64 and a 7RM, I'd go for a .300 Win Mag instead. André DRSS --------- 3 shots do not make a group, they show a point of aim or impact. 5 shots are a group.
