I don't know squat about these cartridges, but I have a 7RM... Any real world diff shooting a 300WM/180 grainer vs. 7RM/175 grainer on say elk-sized game using Nosler Partitions??? Just curious

IMO it's a coin toss..... The real value in the .300 is use of the larger bullet such as the 200 grainers......but then is 20 grains worth a lot? I have always considered the 7mm Mag, the .300 Mags and the .30-06 as players in the same league.....not as a put-down to the magnums.....but as a measure of how good the .30-06 actually is! /////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// "Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy, its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery." For an accurate comparison you would have to compare the .300 180 gr. to a 7mm 160 gr. The 7mm will do fine on elk, when I lived in northern Alberta there were probably more elk taken with 7mm RM with 160 gr Partitions than all other calibres combined.

The 175NP out of a 7mm RM will easily out penetrate the 300WM 180NP. BUT, it's penetration you don't need on an elk... Both of the above will out perform the 30-06 on the biggest game... I've seen this myself using all 3 of them on moose ect... DM

The .300WM 180 gr w/premium bullets - I like the SWIFT A-Frame - will take any deer or antelope on earth, including everyone in Africa, and will also take some of the dangerous game as well - Leopard and Crocodile for certain. I have done. The 7mmRM leaves you under gunned on many, and the same for the venerable .30-06. JMO based upon experience, education and training. I don't think the elk will notice. But if you have a choice, 300 WM FTW

The Nosler manual maxes out the 175gr 7RM at 2970fps with RL22. It maxes out the 180gr in the -06 at 2872fps with RL22. An elk won't know the difference even when you consider BC at longer distances. That's why I've always stuck with the -06 The WM maxes out at 3160fps so there is an advantage there. With judicious reloading I'm liking the 300 WM 180g. all day over the 7mm with 175g or 160g..

I would use my 300 RUM shooting a 200gr Nosler if it were me

I've used the 300 w/200gr bullets and the 7mm w/160s. All of the elk looked prettty dead no matter which one I used. Aim for the exit hole
