What's the general consensus about these controled expansion bullets? I've never tried them and basicly would like some input for the 9.3X74R. Midway has some good prices and I'm tempted to try some.
Thanks

I have used the Lapua 185 gr .308 bullet in a 30-06, and the 285 gr 9.3 bullets in my 9.3x62. I really like them, and a friend has similar results. We both got a bear with the 9.3, and accurate too. In 9.3, they are actually my favorite.

Yes, the 9.3 bullet I am talking about is the Lapua Mega. I use other brands too, and haven't found a bad one yet, but I really like Lapua products in general.

Say, what rifle is your 9.3x74R?

I have one on an Encore Frame, but I have shot it only a few times so far. Maybe I'll take it to the range this afternoon.

Regards

It's not here yet. It's a Chapuis DR in the 9.3X74R. I'm just trying to get geared up for this new beast. Thanks for the feed back.I think I'll make an order.

Mike,
I looked on Guns America to see if they had a Chapuis DR listed, mostly because I wanted to see some pictures of one. Wow, that's got to be one of the best looking rifles I have ever seen.

You got me thinking. I could sell several of my bolt guns, and actually buy one of those DRs. The 9.3x74R would be my choice too. I can hunt with only one at a time anyway, and I've got too many, so some are seldom shot.

I'm sure you will enjoy that one. Good hunting.

I´ve used the Mega in 6.5x55 but I heven´t been very satisfied -bullets have broken up, penetration has been below par etc. It might be that the construction isn´t good for the caliber.

I used the mega tip bullets in my 264 win mag Ruger and loved them. They worked perfict on pronghorn at about 350 yards and a hudge whitetail at 15 yards. They are accurate as heck.I got 3/8" groups at 100 yards.I ordered 1000 of them i like them so much. They made very little blood shot on all shots taken.

Kabluewy,
If you're around in a month or so when it gets in you can take a look at mine before you order.

I've used both the 185 and 150 in 308W on reindeer, I like the 150's better. Reindeer are a "soft" target so I have never recovered a bullet but the wound channel is good and the animals have only needed 1 bullet. My loads have always been moderate but I beleieve the bullet would tackle the higher velocity well. I wish they made them in 7mm for my 280 but they dont.
