Hello Folks,

Well, here's another rifle I just bought yesterday from a local Gun Shop. I couldn't wait to tell all of you about this unique rifle.

I believe its a Custom Free Rifle built for 300 meter competition. Its built on a Type 99 Jap 7.7mm Arasaka that has its original barrel "rechambered" to 30-06 caliber. I've never seen such a unique custom rifle in all my years of collecting.

Features include;

Custom Thumb-Hole Stock
Custom Hook Butt Plate
Engraved & Nickel Plated Mauser 98 Bottom Metal
Mauser Double-Set Triggers
Custom Adjustable Palm Rest
Custom Floor Plate Cover w/ 6 Holes for various Palm Rest location
Custom Bolt Handle Re-shaped and Angled Down
Custom Hand-Stop Rail w/ 14 Holes for various Sling Swivel positions
Unertl Scope Blocks Soldered to the receiver and barrel

The Original Factory 7.7mm Military Barrel was re-chambered to 30-06.  Barrel slugs 0.300 bore / 0.312 groove. The barrel is free-floated its entire length.

Stock was built "in place" and "around" the Engraved Mauser Bottom Metal - so it cannot be removed.  Rear action screw is "blind" - with a screw driver slot cut into the thread end of the screw - so as to allow "reverse" tightening from the top, because you can't get to the head end of the screw - which is permanantly hidden in the stock.  There is a Custom Steel Base Plate at the tang end of the receiver - this has the rear action screw peeking through a hole in the plate. The stock shows a few repairs to the seams of the "layered" building of wood and epoxy that must have loosened from shooting, but this does not detract from the unique "look" of the rifle.

Original Factory Sights, front and rear, are left in place.

I can't wait to mount my Unertl scope on it and take it to the range for testing. I'll post targets tomorrow.

Pictures are shown below. Comments are most welcome.

Well, it's absolutely lovely and unique on stilts. It's a really great acquisition.

I'm interested in how it shoots, and whether it likes .308 or .312 bullets best.

Neat gun!

We have a 300 CISM competition here in Europe. The majority of players are in Switzerland, Austria, Scandanavia and a few in Germany.

I thought that was what you are talking about. But this beast is something all together different.

Hello p dog shooter,

Thanks for the reply.

I'd rather not say as it might affect the selling price when I get tired of licking the honey off it.

Hello all,

Thanks for the reply.

This is an example of what a creative man built for himself, with what he had available to him. Not everyone can afford an expensive competition rifle or the components to build one.

I put my 20x Programmer on top, and took it for a test run.  The trigger is awesome. I'm pleased.

It just goes to show what can be done if the will is there . Excellent , I applaud his craftsmanship, really . Not everyone can afford a store bought custom rifles . That was probably a vets bring back , maybe it almost shot him , or a friend and he wanted to never forget .
