180 gr. Accubond up here for deer and moose and blackie's. I definetly would not use a Winchester Fail Safe bullet. For the second year in a row a guy in our camp has shot a moose with them, and you could almost use the recovered bullet's over again(no expansion) just my 2cent's worth. Rick.

If limited to only one bullet, I would choose the 180 grain Nosler Partition. I have used it successfully in .300 H&H, .300 Win Mag, and .300 Weatherby loadings.

I'm from Australia and have not hunted in the US, an omission I intend to rectify as soon as opportunity presents.

I have a 30 cal magnum (a 308 Norma Magnum, similar to a 30/338). I am of the firm belief that the 180gr or heavier bullet weights are the 30 cal mags forte. I have used the 180 Hornady SPBT, the Sierra 180gr Spitzer BT and the Nosler 180gr partition. For heavier game, e.g. Bear, moose, elk, a 200gr bullet would not be out of place.

If you wanted a real flatshooter for the wide open spaces you could load a 150gr bullet to 3,300-3,400 fps. But really at the end of the day the 180gr high BC bullet driven at around 3,100 fps will out shoot even the 150gr bullet driven 200 fps faster at ranges beyond 300 yds. For this reason, if I wnated one bullet, I'd stick to the 180 gr bullet in this calibre.

As far as choice of bullet (within 180gr) is concerned, you have already been given plenty of good advice. I would however, try to match the bullet to the game and the hunting environment. Don't overlook a good slow expanding bullet (like the Nosler partition) for larger game and for environments where you'll need to push through foliage (bush) to get to the animal. For general use though I like the Hornady SPBT (stock # 3072).

Another vote for the Barnes Triple Shock. I use em' in my .300 Weatherby and so far they've worked great.

Ive used Sierra 165 HPBT's for everything except bear where ive used 200 gr NP.

My favorite is the 200 gr. Nosler Partition, either the old RN or the newer semi-spitzer. Have shot a flock of elk with them from the .300 Wby cartridge and all died with one hit each, inckuding both of my first two 6x6's.

There may be better bullets out there, but I've never needed better (no tungsten elk in the woods around here!) and the factory cosmetic 2nd's ordered by phone direct from the Nosler Pro-Shop are a real buy. Flat-rate shipping, too, for all the bullets in one order.
