Lets see now. Someone's calling me a " gunstore sniper". I've been shooting for 14 years and reloading for 12 of them with everything from a 17 hornet to a 45/70.I've actually owned 47 rifles( not just used a friends) and professionally culled dingoes, kangaroos, donkeys ,horses, goats , cats , dogs and a lot of other things besides. If a bullet works, it works. If someone develops his/her ethics based on what they're told or read, rather than personal experience, more fool them.If that someone then decides to push their unproved ethics upon a community of others, and the others follow, congratulations sheeple.

Guys, I can't believe another battle about SMKs. I've shot very few of them in my life and don't remember if I have ever hunted anything with them. But there has been enough members on this board saying they work, that I'm willing to take their word for it!
If all these people say they work good for them, super! Let them use them! I don't want anyone telling me what bullet to use.
The SMK controversy should be the deadest issue on this website by now. JMHO

trevofkal,..you misunderstand my friend,..I replied to your post and agreed with you,..the second half was directed at the non-beleiver above you whom has decided that nothing but a box of barnes x pills is worth anything but paper punching and all of us who shoot large numbers of game with them are all delusional. Reread my post with that in mind and you'll see what I was trying to say,..I should have addressed 280akleyerized in the second half.

Quote: 30 cal. SMK what have you killed with them , just want to know what animals and how big no discutions on the proper or inproper use of these bullets
I've killed about 5-6 hundred head of Casey-Birchwood target dots with them. I even had one charge me one day (wind was blowing hard)! It was at that point I came to the conclusion, the .30 SMK is not a good "stopping bullet"
Silly question deserves a silly answer. I'd rather throw rocks!

Use of a bullet for anything other than its intended use...especially when game animals are involved is unethical. SMK stand for Sierra MATCH King. Use the bullet for target shooting and use a hunting bullet for hunting. It amazes me that everyday some new idiot wants to hunt with target ammo. Come on people...there are too many scary accurate hunting bullets out there. If u took the time to work a load with the SMK...get off yer ass and work one with a bullet intended for hunting.
Different states, different rules so the CDP rules here in Michigan will be slightly different than JustC faces. Basicly it's a off season doe shoot, the farmer/land owner is given a number of permits (one per deer) to bring the population into line or thin down the herd. It's baised on population numbers, sex ratio, and the amount of dammage being done to the crops. Hours are determined by the permit, I've only shot "daylight" dammage permits, but we (land owner and I) were offered a permit to shoot by spotlight if we wanted it (IE: you can't use a "daylight" permit after dark). In Michigan, the allowed shooters are named on the permit, I understand other States issue permits to the landowner, without restrictions on who is allowed to shoot.

The fact of the matter is you can kill deer with FMJ's if you want to. Deer aren't hard animals to kill, doesn't make it ethical or right. If you've ever taken the time to examine one of these bullets after it hits something it becomes obvious why you shouldn't use them on game. If you already knew the answer why the hell did you ask the question?

Now there's a quote I'll remember for some time.

I see what you say now in a different light. No probs. I have come across that attitude I THOUGHT you were portraying toward me in other forums because I am not part of the "inner sanctum" of the forums more popular posters. Sorry for misreading your intent.

filled every single crop damage permit with 30cal SMK's this summer (all whitetail and no less than 300yds). If you can't shoot,..it don't matter what pill you got.
