I've been invited to hunt hogs for a week on a friend's deer lease near Richland, Georgia..

Six of us will be hunting the 2000 acre lease for a week starting next Saturday...

I've never SHOT a wild hog, but I hope to change that very soon...I'll be using my CZ 550 American in 9.3 x 62 with 250 grain Barnes X bullets...

Hopefully I'll have an autopsy report or two when I return, along with an ice chest or two of wild pork...

Any of you 9.3 fans have any experience with this round on wild hogs/boars..??.. So far all I have shot with mine are two caribou and a whitetail, all of which were instant kills with minimal meat loss...

You got a really nice hog medicine there, porker won't stand a chance [Big Grin] [Big Grin]

I have used 285 grains noslers and some European bullets. Barnes will work fine. I would personally go for a heavier bullet if it is close shoots. Take a look at European hunting forum and you will find some more facts [Wink]

I took four wild hogs during deer season with my Husky 9.3 x 62. I am using up some 286 grn. Alaska bullets (factory stuff) and I am not overly impressed with that bullet...love the caliber and have some factory PMP in 286 to try and have some 250 Barnes X and 286 Nosler Partition to try also.
Hurry up and go on the hunt! I am anxious to hear your report!!! You should be king of the hill with such a nice caliber.

Alaska bullets is a bit like cluster bombs [Big Grin]

I would much rather recommend ORYX or some other good bullets. Blaser also makes a very nice CDP bullet, it might be hard to find in USA.

I used the 250 gr X in my 9.3x62 FN last June on eland, gemsbuck, kudu, springbuck, impala, bushbuck and blesbuck. The toughest impact was the running elands' shoulder at about 30 yards. The big bull just rolled dead at the shot. The bullet was recovered under the off side skin and weighed 221 grs. The other extreme was on the little springbuck at 230 yards. A large exit wound behind the shoulder on a broadside shot told me the bullet expanded on the little critter. NO hog will survive a good hit with this bullet.

Pygmy,
It should work great on a hog. I shot a big male warthog in Zim using mine with a 286-gr Partition at about 50 yards. Bullet penetrated completely and he didn't even go 20 yards after the shot.

If you recover a bullet (which I doubt) please post some photos. The Barnes 250gr shoots very well in my CZ and I'd like to see how they do on at the 9.3x62 muzzle velocities.

All German boarhunter love the 9,3x62!

Partition, H-Mantel or Ballistic TiP will be fine.
Barnes x is only needed on very big boars...
Good shooting! [Razz]

I shot a warthog with mine in Sept and impressed my PH. The shot was straight into the chest @60yds. It took out the heart, liver and various other intervening structures and ended up in the medial thigh. There was no blood in the chest because the heart was cut in a wedge. The liver was scattered in the abdomen in fingertip sized pieces. The post mortem impressed me too. Hog measured 13". You will be pleased with the result on hogs. I was using Nosler Partition 286gr @2350fps.

I just returned last night...

Unfortunately, I did not even lay an EYEBALL on a piggy to try my rifle on....Hunting was tough, although the weather was GREAT ( I missed 2 feet of snow at HOME) and we had a fine time...My partner took a 140 lb. sow the last evening of the hunt with his 7MM Rem mag and a 150 grain Federal factory load....Destroyed the lungs and the pig went about 30 yards and folded up...

Pygmy - Word must of got out that you were heading down that-a-way with your 9.3, and all the piggies ran and hid [Smile]

You definitely picked a good week to be in the deep South. Bet all that snow piled up when you got home was a real pain (or did the missus clean it up while you were gone? [Smile] )
