CZ 550's Very Disappointing

I have two CZ 550 rifles. One is an American in 9.3x62 and the other is a 550FS in 6.5X55. I have become rather disappointed with these two rifles while working up loads. It seems that every powder bullet combination I try shoots so well it's scary and no further testing is required. Well, that's No fun. Where is the challenge in that. Now, my M70 in 6.5X55, that's fun. I have yet to get any groups under 2 inches. Maybe, I should trade my CZ's off for some more Winchesters so I can have all kinds of fun.

Rusty,

What kind of CZ 9.3x62 do you have? I am looking at a CZ550FS with the Mannlicher stock in 9.3x62.

Wow..........this is just what I wanted to hear. I've been looking at the 6.5x55 vs. the 25-06 and have a post elsewhere here asking which to buy for a mid caliber out here in the west.

Steve......their website says its a 5 round fixed magazine. Does this extend belwo the rifle like the detachable mags? Or is it internal to the gun? I've never had a CZ nor do i know anyone with one. But a lot of folks on here have good things to say about them. Do they have good fit and finish to the gun? I like my rifles to look good as well as shoot great. Thanks for any replies.

I bought a used 550 American posted by one of our members. A very nice rifle. It functiions well and seems well made. I will add a bit of bedding and probably a front ramp and adjustable rear and maybe a barrel band. Waiting on dies now.

Steve4102,
change your scope, usea reticle 1 (one) and you still have some fun.
At 300 meters with my new CZ 7x57M I did a main group of 5 shots in 3.5cm, with two more shots a group of 5cm, and with two more shots a group of 12cm.
I am not sure about my loads Big Grin

The fixed mags do not hang below the rifle. They have a hinged floor plate that is flush with the stock. The CZ 550's can be purchased for less than $600. If you compare the finish of the CZ to a very expensive rifle then No they do not have good "fit and finish", if you compare them to say a Savage 11G then they are beautiful. You may want to check one out up close and personal to see for yourself.

Damme! I've got thye same problem with my two CZ's too! A .416 Rigby and a 7,62X 39mm. Both have proven quite accurate with the very first loads I tried in them..... even with cast bullets!

I too, must admit that I've had the same problems with a CZ 375, 416 and hopefully a 270 FS 550 that I haven't shot yet.

Steve Malinverni: CZ used to sell the 7x57mm here in the US, but quit importing them. Is the 7x57mm in CZ 550 American and CZ 550 Full Stock available in Europe? By the way, I have a brother living in Vacenza (I think that is how it is spelled). He loves it there. Tom Purdom

Loosening the front action screw about 3/4 turn should fix you right up.

Fella's I feel your pain! while the rifle I have is on the small side of what you are shooting I bought one of the CZ527 in 17 Remington and to date it is the only rifle I have that has not had any work to the stock for relief around the barrel and I have yet to bed it, I'm scared I might screw up a good thing! I can tell you this much if I were to buy instead of build another rifle the CZ will get my vote by a large margine. Later,

Kirk

OH, I just thought of something. Did you mean to loosen the front screw on the Win M70 so it will shoot like my CZ's, or did you mean to loosen the screw on my CZ's so they shoot like my Win.?

Just kiding, just kidding, sorry.
