I love my Howa 1500 S/S 30-06. It's been my go-to gun for the past 8 years; know it like the back of my hand.

Beautiful rifle Sendero. I've got a 270 in progress that will be virtually identical. I take it that is an edge stock to hit that weight?

Here's my favourite. A 1959 fwt restocked with a Jerry Fisher pattern and Blackburn bottom metal.

It is very nice, thanks, and shoots like a lazer. I haven't had it very long now, maybe just a couple months. It's one of those rifles I just enjoy shooting....being a 30-06 ...

Rick, who made that rifle?? Wow....!!!!

Yes, my rifle has the "edge" stock. I think Mark and I both thought it would weigh slightly less but it came out 7# 8oz. and that's the rifle with Talley bases.

I've owned several 30-06's through the years but it never was my favorite cartridge until the 1980's or so.

I've had a few I regret trading off or selling:

Pre war 1937 model that was almost mint condition and was a real shooter with 150gr bullets.

A featherweight model that would always shoot about an inch w/165's..forget the year model but it had an alum. butt plate.

The other was a Ruger #1 standard. Heavy rifle but always shot under an inch with Hornady factory 165's.

Here is another long time favorite 30-06 built on a Husqvarna bbl action with steel FN bottom metal. It was re-stocked by Steve Berg and weighs a tad over 6 pounds

And for those long, wet hunts in steep, rugged terrain where long range accuracy is called for I have my 6 1/2 pound Borden

A man can't have too many good 30-06's

And yes they all do get used

Anyone who claims the 30-06 is ineffective has either not tried one, or is unwittingly commenting on their own marksmanship

Thanks! Bill Leeper did the work for me. He is understated on here, but obviously does beautiful work.

Springfield 1903 sporter.

I have two other 1903's, a 1903a3, and a 1917, all sporters.

I would like to add a Remington 760 carbine, some day.

Butch, How can anyone on AR claim to have a Rem M-30 as their favorite 30-06 ? You should seek counceling and immediately have it "punched out" to at least a 458 Lott or preferably ( if you are a real man) to something beginning with a .5. Wink
They are great rifles, does your's have the Lyman 48 rear sight?

Yes mine has the Lyman sights. It also has a steel buttplate that hurts. I have a Lott already, an Enfield 450 Ackley Mag, and a 416 Rigby Enfield in the making.
Now that I don't live in Fairbanks or Anchorage anymore, I need the big guns for these huge Texas jackrabbits and prairie dogs.
Don't ever move back to the lower 48 Phil.

I don't plan on it Butch. I get more than enough exposure between SHOT, SCI and a couple bird hunts.
it sounds like you have a nice selection of Enfields. They tend to be underated by many but make great rifles. I currently have only have these two:
but that is always subject to change

My favorite, Win.M70. Please dont forget however the most commonly caried rifle in 30-06 cal.(last hunters survey I read anyway,Field and Stream ,I think?).Was the old stamped out,Mass produced, Remington 742 autoloader. I must say I own one. A Woodsmaster in 30-06. My M70 will out-shoot it, factory or handloads, hands down, There's no question. The best I've been able to get with the 742 is 1 1/8"-1 1/4" at 100yds. I do tend to cary it when hunting the timber/brush i must report. Most shots are well inside 100yds,(more like 50). I'd also like to tell you that I never miss at that range,BUT..Sprouts,sticks and the ever popular limb, that you thought you could see through that scope will happen. Thats when the rapid second shot is helpfull. That having been said. At longer ranges, Fields and the like. The 742 stays home and the M70 comes out.

A Sedgley '03 Springfield sporter /w Lyman 48 recv'r sight. No one ever messed with it and put a scope on it or anything. I like it that way.

It shows it age and the throat is getting worn but it still shoots well. Does a nice job with C/B too.

My other is a '44 production S/A M1 rifle.

Nice Rifle

Does a m98 FN bottom metal fit right on a Husky 1600 with out any mods?

I always wondered if it would if I ever get a 1600 with that ugly aluminum husky bottom metal

Interarms Mark X because the stock fits me (altered) and I can shoot deer on the run with it. Basically it has an old Banner 4X on it. The rifle shoots like taking a pict with a camera in that the target is easy to get on quickly. Oh ya! The action itself is just plain perfect.

Strangely I have a Browning Madalion in 375 which fits me just fine as well (as issued), however the stock and metals are no way the same as my favorite Mark X in 06.
