Anybody have a good load for the 225gr North Fork Soft in a 338 WM? Will be used in Africa so do not want something super hot. Thanks.

I loaded 240 gr. North Forks over 75 gr. of RL 22 with Federal 215M primers for Africa last year. That load shot 2755 fps. and .69" groups out of a Ruger 77 MkII. My son killed a cape buffalo (I know, not a legal caliber) with one shot with this load and gun. Broke both shoulders and disconnected the aorta from the heart. The buff went about six feet and fell on his nose. I have another load for the 225 gr. TSX which shoots very accurately (.50" groups) in this gun. For the TSX I use 71 gr. IMR 4350 same primer, and seat .050" off the lands. I get 2750 fps. with this load. Hope this helps. Geronimo

bulldog: I use 72.5 grs. of Rldr-22 behind a 225 gr. NF in my .338 Mag. Velocity is 2800 and accuracy is a consistant 1" in my Ruger SS mod. 77. This is using a 1.5-5x Leupold Vari-x III. Got a bull with that combo this last fall at about 225 yds. and found the bullet. It entered just behind the left front shoulder and we found it under the hide by the right rear quarter. It weighs 218 grs. and is a perfect mushroom. Can't ask for better. IMHO, you get better accuracy with less weight loss using a NF than you do with Partitions. I just wish Mike would continue making his 150 gr. bullets for my .270 Win. but alas, no. I don't think you can go wrong with this bullet. Good luck. Bear in Fairbanks Unless you're the lead dog, the scenery never changes. I never thought that I'd live to see a President worse than Jimmy Carter. Well, I have.
