I have a shirttail relative who has an old Super Grade 30'06 and a newer Model 70 (push feed) in 300 Weatherby. Anyone have ideas as to what they are worth? My Dad gave him the Super Grade. He wants to sell them as a pair and I really want the one he got from my Dad.
Thanks,Mark

I have seen pre 64 Winchesters sell for over a thousand bucks at a sale. The average price is around six hundred for one in good shape with no modifications. Pre 64 Winchester buyers like them as is from the factory. If the rifle has been tampered with the value is much less. I own a pre 64 Winchester in 30-06 vintage 1945 that has had the stock shortened and a modern recoil pad installlled plus one hole drilled for a scope mount. The value of my rifle is much les than one that is as it came from the factory.
If you want your dads old Winchester rifle agree on a price and get it. Pre 64 Winchesters are very collectable and have been for years. Lets put it this way, if you pay 1100 bucks for a Weatherby Mark V new and walk back in the shop the next day he will offer you 500 bucks because it's used now. The early pre 64 Winchester rifles sold for less than a 100 bucks new. Now they are worth as much as 1000 bucks used, get the picture.

That old super grade could be worth as much as $2000 more or less depending on the condition or if it's been altered. Go to www.pcfirearms.com to see the high end of what the rifle is worth. Of course all depends on the condition etc.

Seeing as though you are buying, not selling, I;ll give you some ammo to get your dads gun back. I bought a 300Win mag Pre 64 with a 3-9 Leupold that had some alterations/bedding for 850 Can. If your unit has no scope on it I bet that is about what you should pay if it has seen some use.Remember that the gun trade is not as hairy up here and we benefit from fewer collectors. Good luck getting that jem back into the fold

The Supergrade in 30-06 should be worth 1500-2000US assuming it is unaltered (no pad or extra holes, etc.) and in very good to excellent original condition. Asking prices are sometimes more if the condition is pristine or the "dealer" is greedy. It is a very desirable piece, and since it belonged to your Dad, you should make every effort to get it back.
