Anyone here use 308 brass re-sized for their 7-08? I read info from Speer stating that all you have to do is run 308 brass through your full length sizing die. This would save a few dollars when you buy brass.

Yes I did see that speer said you should measure after. The reason I was wondering is because I work at the Sheriff's office and I can get 308 brass they use in the range. Save myself some money.

I have re-sized 308 brass for the 7mm/08 for the past 2 years. The need to neck-turn will depend on the brass. my process is :
re-size
trim to length
champher/deburr
tumble
load a dummy round
chamber in the rifle
this has indicated a need to neck-turn or not. Mostly not with once-fired brass.
GOOD LUCK and GOOD SHOOTING!!!

I don't pass up 308 brass either. Not hard at all to re-use in the 7mm08, and dang sure easy to find at any range.

Time is money and my time is usually worth more than $4 an hour.

I wouldn't bother with 308 brass unless you were getting it free or really cheap..................DJ

Measure the neck O.D. of your fired brass, and measure the neck O.D. of resized .308 brass. Your sized brass should be a minimum of 0.002" less than the fired brass.

I have two 7-08s at the moment. Have had them both for more than 16 years, and have NEVER owned a single round of brass that is headstamped with that nomenclature. I've always used reformed .308 brass.

I guess that may be because when I was shooting hi-power competition in Canada, the government provided me with 200 rounds per week, every week, of .308 ammo (O.K., actually 7.62 NATO) for practice purposes, so I had RAFTS of once-fired brass on hand, free....my choice, IVI or WRA.

Bottom line is, it works well.

I srongly encourage you to grab all that brass you can. Not only will it make good brass for your 7/08, you can also make .243, 260, .358, .30-BR, and numerous other things from it. You may not have any of them now, but you might someday.

If nothing else, it will be good trading stock which someday, maybe, God forbid, no amount of cash money can buy.
