Just picked up a 8x57 and have not before loaded for this caliber. I'm wanting a heavy bullet that performes well at the velocity available for this cartridge. Will be using it with aperature sights for Deer, Bear, and Elk. Also not wanting to fork out for the overly expensive Woodleighs and such, as I will be shooting it a great deal. Have found 170 gr. Speers readily available on the shelves, but don't know how they perform ,and was hoping for something in the 220 gr. range. Any suggestions?

I've found the Bulk 185 Remington Corelokts give above average performance in all my 8x57's. They are cheap enough to use as plinkers but are also great pig bullets.

I haven't used any of the 220's yet, prefering instead 200's. A caution on the 220's is that many were intended primarily for use in the 8mm Rem Mag and will not reliably expand at 8x57 velocities. And, even though the 185 was also intended fro the 8mm Rem I find expansion to be satisfactory.

The 195 grain Hornady interlock bullet is a good one too.

You could try some monos. Also pricey though but they work well.

I have had good results with the 175 gr Sierra and 185 gr Rem PSP both accuracy wise and performance on deer sized game.If you want to use an 8x57 on moose or elk I would suggest you try the 200 gr speer or the 200 gr Nosler Partition. I have found these two bullets accept very near the same charges and shoot to the same spot in the rifles I have tested. You can work up loads with the much cheaper Speer bullet then drop back a couple grains and work up with the Partitions. The 200 gr partition is a very good big game bullet. For the money the Speer bullet is a good buy also.

The 200 grain Partitions are a real good bullet but I've also come to like the new Accubond.

Still, thus far, there has been no need to stray from the Rem which has performed so well in all my 8x57's.

I've killed 4 deer with the 8x57 using the 200gr accubond and so far all have been picture perfect including this buck at 195 yds.
