I just purchased a Parker-Hale rifle in .270Winchester. The trigger appears to be a good one, but I am more curious about the action. This is a commercial action, no thumb slit;serial number is P28110 BNP;19 tons. Is this a Santa Barbra Action or is is a Zastava action. Appreciate the assistance. Bill

Are these worth a building a custom i.e., working rifle on (30-06);should they be heat treated?

I have two Parkers one a 1200 and the other a Midland. I'd see how that .270 shoots before I build a custom out of it. My 1200 is a .270 and it is my favorite hunting rifle. It has been a MOA shooter since I paid $300 for it in 03.

My experience with them is limited but the one I worked on was well worthy of any load you can feed it within reason.....no heat treating required and yes, they can handle the 30-06 and more! /////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// "Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy, its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery." I have a midland. Midlands are a very poor rifle in my opinion. I only keep it as a loaner POS rifle. Ron

My 35 Whelen action has no Identifying markings on it but the trigger has "Parker Hale" on it. It was originally a 270 and I got it as a barreled action. As a 270 it was a fine shooter and the trigger is very good so I didn't change it. The safety is part of the trigger group and blocks the trigger itself. It feeds smoothly with the Whelen and shoots well indeed though I haven't done a lot of load developement. I was told by my gunsmith the action was a commercial FN. The parker hale with the M98 action is good. I would pick one up in a minute. The Midland is a sleazy 03-A3 wannabe. The action is a cast action. Mine shows pressure with mild loads. There is only one kind of mounts for them. Weaver aluminum. Even at that the mounts came with two different size of threads. The back had 6-48 and the front had 8-40. I finally gave up and changed the front holes to match the mount. I figure if it is the only mount made why not change. LIke I said before I keep it to loan out. I hate the thing. Ron
