From what I can gather (which isn't much), the 280 Dubiel Magnum was a cartridge designed by John Dubiel and Charles Askins . They necked down the 300H&H magnum with barrel grooves cut to .2885". Dennis Life member NRA

http://www.shootersforum.com/w...0-dubiel-magnum.html The original bullet was the .288 same as the 280 Ross. Doug Humbarger NRA Life member Tonkin Gulf Yacht Club 72'73. Yankee Station Try to look unimportant. Your enemy might be low on ammo.

You are right, mostly anyway. I don't know about the Askins part. I think Dubiel may have been working at G&H at the time. I have a .276 Dubiel, it's .284 dia. different case, less capacity,.275 H&H brass was used for it

I have a .280 Dubiel but unfortunately haven't fired it although I do have dies and a lot of bullets for it. Something I need to get around to doing.

Did you get around to shooting your .280 Dubiel? Mine with a new barrel came back last week, bored for .284 in place of .288 Thanks,
