I saw a Sako Grey Wolf at cabella's on Friday in .270 win.
I really liked the feel and balance of the rifle. The action is silky smooth. The magazine follower is machined, not stamped. The trigger is near perfect. And the stock actually fits. My eye was aligned in the center with the receiver and the barrel automatically every time I shouldered the rifle. I just didn't want to spend $1400 for a rifle. SO I go online and google Sako Grey Wolf. I found them in .338 Federal for only $725! That sounded too cheap. So I researched and found that Sako has decided to discontinue that caliber and sold a few hundred to www.eurooptic.com to clear them out. I've been considering a medium bore for a while, well now, I filled that need. Smiler
Should be here by Friday if the UPS man doesn't get lost!! dancing

Congratulations.

I have hunted a lot with a 308, a little with a 350 Rem Mag, and a lot with a 9,3x74R double.

The 338 Federal falls in there somewhere, and should be a great hunting calibre.

You got a very good price as well.

Keep us posted, let us know how she shoots.

You will enjoy your rifle a lot. I have a load of Sako 85's and 75's, and they are fine, smooth, accurate rifles.
I think the 338 Federal might be a cool caliber, if it doesn't float your boat, rebarrel to 308 and rock and roll.

A friend has the same rifle, it is impressively accurate!

I doubt that I'll rebarrel it anytime soon. I like the ability to go up to 220 grains in a .308 parent case and I like the larger diameter. I've been wanting a medium bore and this one just fell right in the middle of the gap of my collection.

To be honest, I'm really tempted to buy a second one at that price as either an investment or just to have for a future project. It's a killer deal for the stock and barreled action.
