Is this a good game bullet for blackbear over bait in a .308 win. ?

Hello .358,

Never hunted bear, but I don't think that I would have any hesitation in using that combination - it should work well. The 308 isn't going to push that 180 to speeds that might compromise the bullet (I'm going to guess you'll have around 2500 fps MV), and at the ranges typical in hunting over bait (~50 yards) it should still have plenty of punch!

Happy hunting!,

Bill

I have had good result hunting (fairly thin skinned animals - up to Red Deer) with the Rem RN CL bullets. They should work fine at .308 velocities. I would not choose them for magnum speeds...

Unfortunately Remington doesn't seem to make these bullets anymore - at least it is hard to get the RNCL bullets as reloading components. Is this factory ammo, or have you manged to locate (or inherit) reloading stocks??

I wouldn't think twice about using a 180 gr. Corelock for black bear. It will work just fine.

Thanks fellows, I appreciate the input. These are just factory loads bought at Wal-mart. I shot the rifle yesterday and put 3 in a ragged hole at 50 yds ! in the west dirt bank I tried to dig out a bullet but not much luck. The hole went in 18" and I couldn't find the bullet. I also shot old Reliable another BLR*! in .358 with .250 grn Hornady spire points. I finally got it to shoting like I want after changing scopes. I dojn't know much about the Hornady bullets as all I have ever used in this rifle is .250 speer flat base and I know they work on bear ! but none were available so I loaded up some Hornady. Anyone had any experience with the .250 hornady SP on game ?

That old RN corelokt is a real sleeper, all us old timers know that...It will perform right up their with most premium bullets if you don;t push it too fast.....It is a GREAT BULLET and it sells cheap..I have about 2000 .308 caliber RN Corelokt, got scared they would disapear off the market so bought a liftime supply for hunting.
