Has anyone necked up the 338 Ultra mag to .358 or better yet the 9.3. Should be a great cartridge.

Snapper,
Sounds good to me. I'm in the process of buying a rifle chambered for a 9.3/375 Dakota. What an awsome round. Good luck with yours. [Smile]

Over .40:

I'm not sure what the case holds but wanted to somewhat make a beltless .358 Norma Mag by necking up the 338 Ultra case to .358 or 9.3. I'm leaning towards the 9.3. I like the Dakota brass but was thinking that 338 Ultra is sold here in town at Scheels for less money.

I have necked one 338 Ultra case up to .358 and seated a bullet. Oh baby does it look nice.

When will your gun be done? What bullet will you use? It should out perform the 9.3x64.

Good luck and let us know how it turns out.

Snapper,
The rifle is done, it's just a matter of money till it's mine. He's used speer 250s and 270s to test and break in the Kreiger barrel. Velocity with the 250s was 3200fps and 3100fps with the 270s. It will make a fine elk rifle [Big Grin]

I do have 358 Griffin & Howe Imp. which is another outstanding cartridge 250s at 3000fps and 280s at 2900fps and shoots fantastic! [Big Grin]

Snapper,
I'll be useing Swift A-Frames and North Forks. I've benn useing the swifts for a couple of years with great results and i'm going to give the north forks a try. A friend loaded some for his 9.3/62 and boy do they shoot! VERY accurate just like advertised.

The real virture of the 9.3x62 and the 64 for that matter, is its lack of velocity!!

If your after a whiz banger go with something that has has a lot of good premium bullets available such as the 338 on one side or the 375 on the other....

If, on the other hand, your just whizzen then have at it, can't hurt.

Over 40,
Speer does not make a 250 gr. bullet for the 9.3, only a 270 which is a poor hunting bullet BTW... he must have used something else...just for your info so you don't scour the town looking for a non existent bullet.

Thanks Ray for the correction and info but i have no intentions of useing speers, only Swift A-Frames and North Forks. If those North Forks stay together as well as they group their just might be a "New Bullet" in town!

Over .40,

I got several boxes of Northforks on my bench right now and have only shot the 165 grainers out my 30-06. They do shoot! [Eek!]

Alf, I like the 9.3 and the 338 Ultra case. They seem to go together. [Big Grin] 338 Ultra brass is everywhere and pretty reasonable in price.

I like the 375 Ultra but can't get excited about it [Roll Eyes]
