I am thinking of having a new blued finish rifle coated for better weather resistant properties(and I think it looks better). Will this external coating affect accuracy at all?

It seems that it would affect the harmonics on the barrel, but that is just from what I have read, no actual experience.

Unless you have a match barrel that has been lapped, I wouldn't worry about it.

It did not effect either of mine. I have two that were done, one with a Douglas XX and one with a Lilja and both rifles still shoot better than I can, no change.

A good friend of mine recently had an otherwise stock Ruger M77 restocked and cerakoted. Prior to having the work done, the gun would consistantly shot sub MOA with a particular handload that it liked, now it won't even come close to MOA with the same load. Obviously, the bedding has changed as the barrel is now free floated, but I can't help but wonder how much of an efect the cerakote has had on the accuracy. Haven't had a chance yet to try to work up a new load yet, FWIW...

Does he still have the old stock? Might tell where the issue lies.

Hi Akshooter-

I don't have any affiliation or personal experience with any of these folks, but here are some links that I gathered while doing a little research myself a while back.

Good luck!

It shouldn't make any difference at all, with the caveat that if the coating is applied very thick it can affect a tight bedding job.

I typically coat my rifles after initial load work and rarely is there any difference at all.
