Anyone familier with Brownwells "Quick-set" leather sling? http://www.brownells.com/aspx/ns/store/ProductDetail.as...-SET+LATIGO%7e+SLING I am looking for a classic leather sling for a pre-64 M70 in .300 H&H. The stock is the original wood stock. Other suggestions? Thanks

I have Uncle Mikes on some of my rifles. Miltary style. No metal touches my stocks. Those slings by Browning look pretty good.

Dick Murray's A-1 Quick-set Rifle Sling fits the bill. I use them almost exclusively and find them classicly attractive and well made. Murray Slings ______________________________ "Truth is the daughter of time." Francis Bacon

Yes, the Murray sling is very nice. Here it the qestion - how do you install one (Murray or Brownell) on a M70 that already has the sling rings(loops?) in place?

I like the Brownell Latigo sling. It's the only one I use on my rifles. I'm sure there are other slings out there that provide good service but I've just been very satisfied with the Latigo. Installation: The instructions for the Latigo have you install the sling with the sling swivels (loops/rings) in place on the rifle. So, if your swivels are permanently attached (not quick-detach swivels), then it shouldn't be a problem. Remington 700 Classic in 8x57. Brownell Latigo sling. (South Africa - August 2005) BTW: I use Pecard Classic Leather Dressing on my leather slings. http://www.pecard.com/ It gives the Latigo sling a nice shade of tan/brown. Product description from their web site: "Pecard Classic Leather Dressing is a perfect blend of natural ingredients that keeps leather supple, strong and beautiful. It repels water, snow and dew; prevents hardening and cracking; resists most acids; removes most stains, and allows the leather to 'breathe'." -Bob F.

I've used both the latigo sling and murray sling for quite some time. Be careful....cut the latigo sling long at first. Their directions will get a sling too short for me.. Call Dick Murray, he will send you a sling without the sling swivels. (a little cheaper btw) You can tie the end yourself and install on the pre 64. Sendero300>>>===TerryP

For a "Classic" sling I think that the Latigo has been around for a bit longer and might suit the period of the rifle slightly better. I use the Latigo slings on several rifles and like them very much. They are quick to adjust and made out of great leather. I much prefer the wider one. I plan to try one of the Murray slings. The latigo's are great but I think the Murry uses a little less leather so might be lighter and better suited for a light rifle. Ditto's on using Pecard to treat leather. It's excellent stuff. I use it on all my leather goods................DJ ....Remember that this is all supposed to be for fun!..................

Are you looking for a shooting sling or a carry strap? Until the CW and Ching Sling came along the classic leather military-style shooting sling was seen on serious rifles. Boyt, Uncle Mikes, and Hunter still make them. Otherwise Hunter makes some nice simple leather carry straps; their deluxe model has no metal hardware. Either would look nice on a Pre-64.

Nordrseta; Not sure the difference. I use leather military slings on most of my other rifles. I have found very few manufactured today that are of good quality leather. I thought the quick-sets from Brownwells and Murray to be of higher quality and a practical change.

I use one Boyt's classic military leather slings on my rifles (including my .300 H&H). Very high quality and I've always been very happy with them. Another vote for Murray! You can borrow money but you can not borrow time. Go hunting with your family.

Hello, I would highly suggest you take a look at www.lestamslings.com for he mfg's only the best in traditional military style slings which was used by early riflemen as Col. Townsend Whelen, Jack O'Connor, etc. Many match shooters of serice rifles use them and can only say they are of highest quality. Check him out, but do not get mad at him for where he lives-Paradise!!

Another vote for Dick Murray. I have one on my 338 and just love it. I also have the butt stock shell holder and think it is a nice addition as well.
