Anyone have any experiences good or bad with the Ruger No. 1 in .405 they care to share? How about handloads...what do you prefer in this rifle for mice to moose? My country gal's just a moonshiner's daughter, but I love her still.

...a fun caliber. Have a #1 stainless and one of the new run of Winchester 95s. Only have had time to load some of the 300 grain Hornady FPs with WW748 powder and the top load bested the factory 2195 fps by about 50 fps. Also loaded up some 210 grain Speer Gold Dot HPs with 2400 powder and it is a pleasant shooting fun load that turns water filled things inside out reguardless of their size. If you check over on GunBroker.com there is a seller named Alcan7 who makes 400 grain bullets for the .405 as well as loaded ammo. I bought some of his RNSP bullets (also available in solids) but have not had the chance to load any yet. Bob

Not in a No 1, but in a custom H&R Target, shoot the 300gr Hornady SP at 2420fps with a healthy dose of Benchmark. I have some .412" 265gr Beartooth WLNGC to try, but haven't shot them yet. http://www.gunblast.com/Ruger_No1_405.htm http://www.gunsandammomag.com/ammunition/bully_041805/index.html
