Hi fellow reloaders,
I hunt with a Mauser MO3 with 20" barrel and have a successful handload of 180gr Barnes TSX and 64gr. of H4350. I am trying to develop a load with 180gr. Nosler with green ballistic tip and the Alliant powder 'Reloader 17'. The Alliant website states a maximum load of 70.5gr so I have loaded up 5 x rounds at 65gr, 5 x 65.5 etc up to 69.5gr. I have yet to trial these loads to work out the best grouping. My question: "Has anyone out there done anything with Reloader 17 and this calibre on a 20" barrel?
Thanks for any help here.

Hello Munty welcome to the forums.

I sadly have no experience with the recipe in question but am sure the knowledgeable chaps in the reloading sub-forum on the site will be able to help.

I have tried a few loads with R-17 in my 300 wsm. Although it is not a 20" barrel (26"). My first try was with 65.5 gr of R-17 and 180 Nosler ABs. The average velocity was 3031 FPS. Unfortunately the group was about 2" not good. I will back it down a little and see what happens and then I may try adjusting seating depth.

I have had excellent accuracy with other powders and these bullets, but at much less velocity. I am working up hotter loads to get more velocity and will see what it does to my accuracy. I am trying for at least 2950 FPS with these bullets.

I also tried 168 gr Barnes TTSX with 67 gr of R-17. The average velocity was 3093 FPS. The group was less than 1/2" but not the velocity I wanted. I will bump up the load a little and try again. Both loads were three shot groups. Once I get the velocity I want I will try 5 shot groups.

All were shot with new Winchester brass and Federal Gold Medal Match, large rifle magnum primers.

Good luck

Hi
Thanks for the reply, I have posted my question on the reloading forum and will see what response I get there. When I have tested my handloads I will post the results. This may take a couple of weeks.
