7-08 factory ammo
A buddy of mine, that does not reload, just bought a 7-08 and asked me about ammo for whitetails. Anybody have any recommendation for him? Shots will be 50-200 yards.

I would tell him to get one box of as many different loads that he can find. Do a test to see which factory loads shoot the best.
I would want to use 139 gr and up for deer in the 7-08.

Have him try a box of the Federal 140 gr. Accubonds.

.....then help him get started loading.

I had the best accuracy from Federal 140 gr. Nosler Solid Base. Worked fine for whitetail this year. I have had good accuracy from Federal Fusion ammo in my '06 and now they are making a 140 grain load for the 7-08 which might be worth a try.

I have good luck with the Speer Nitrex 145 gr. grand slam ammo out of a Rem 700 22" barrel.

I shot some Rem Corelokts that grouped under an inch in a Sako SS Syn 75. Also shot some Light Magnums but they did not do as well. I have never had smaller groups with LMs. Neither my 7x57 or my 7-08 like them

That's one of my favourites along with Winchester's 140 gr. FailSafes.
