Blued bolt handle, black fore end tip, 24" light contour barrel, open sights. Cool!

No, but they had one exhibited at the shot show. I learned about it from a video on gunblast dot com where the rifle was presented and discussed by a Lipsey’s rep.

To quote the Nobel Bard:

"You can do what you want, Abe, but ... the next time you see [it] coming . . ." just take the 375 Ruger or 416 Ruger (RH only).

I'm still holding out for a special edition laminate Alaskan Ruger in 416Ruger. They'll be back.

I checked Lipsey's facebook page daily during the shot show and they never did talk about what Ruger offerings they had this year.

I'm glad to finally hear what the African will be this year.

Thanks for the info!

I’m looking forward to seeing these 2019 rifles.

I’m a little disappointed that it was not the 35 Whelen that we were hinted that it would be. But, the 9.3x62 is as good or better ballistically, so no problem. It’s a great African medium bore for sure!

I would have also hoped for a 22” or 23” max barrel on this cartridge, but that’s just me. Many folks will welcome a 24” barrel. I guess since the previous two were 24”ers, they kept that same dimension.

And no, it should not have the muzzle brake.

I don't suppose they included the lefties in this offering? Frowner

I bought this rifle when they offered it in 9.3x62 a few years ago. I really enjoy mine, and it is a great shooter. It sounds like the only difference is a lighter barrel profile and an extra inch of barrel. Hope these shoot as well for everyone as mine has.

I wish Ruger would do a run like this in 375 H&H.
Their former attempt at a 375 H&H was way too heavy. 7.5lbs would be about perfect if they could pull it off. I bet they’d sell out as fast or faster then the 275 rigby did.

I spoke to Lipsey's and there is as yet no stocking number or order number for this according to what i was told, just a Ruger part number. They said they would put on it on my dealer's "wish list" for me and supposedly that means they will call the dealer when t is available.

Plus, a black forend tip & blue bolt, just like the old Ruger express rifles, minus the English walnut stocks.

Hmmmm. There ARE two African bolt rifles on that rifle stand.

Suppose they’ll make that 35 Whelen yet this year?

I had to call 3 different shops in Louisiana, currently in Wyoming for another month, before I found one that quoted what I felt like was a reasonable price. Told me that they couldn't order one yet because Lipsey's hadn't received them yet but would call me when they are available to be ordered.

Wait and see.

I already have this exact battery, but in CZ rifles: 6.5x55 CZ550 American, and 9.3x62 CZ550fs. Someone talk me out of getting the same in Rugers, please!

If any of you had the choice, which would you pick? CZ or Ruger? In my CZ 9.3, I can load to a COL of 3.45", which can almost make up for the shorter 20.5" barrel.

I can’t make much of a rational argument. I like the CZ Lux versions, which are hard to find and no longer imported. I am an advocate for open sights. However, my eagle eyes hit the 40-somethings a few years ago, and I can’t use them as well as I once did. I certainly don’t think these skinny barreled Rugers will be any more accurate. I like them for their retro British and Type A Mauser looks and handling.

bcelliott,

No sir, I will not try to talk you out of it! THAT’s just crazy talk. Didn’t you know, no one can have too many rifles...

I already have the ‘new’ Ruger Africans in 275 Rigby and 6.5x55, so I NEED the 9.3x62 for that special two-rifle battery.

And, I too have CZs in 6.5x55 and 9.3x62 (and ‘66) with Wayne’s beautiful #3 package from AHR.

NO sir, you need to readjust your faulty thinking before you lose your card carrying rifle nut membership.

As I expected, no help from this crowd! Well then, for research purposes, I will need to directly compare Ruger vs CZ products to determine which I like better. Perhaps the first half of each week--CZ. And the second half--Ruger. Time will tell... lol

I think I feel your pain! I have a late 1920’s Oberndorf “Type M” (spoon handle and ‘06 inside bow release bottom metal) action that will one day become a 9.3x62 Type M style rifle. It will go nicely with my Type A in 9.3x62, and this new Ruger African will go well with the Type A, since it looks so much like it. On the other hand, I’m currently paying for my daughter’s college, so the Mannlicher Mauser will have to wait a while. And then there is this custom single action revolver affliction...
