Quote: You answered your question there. I have a 7mm-08 that I am rather partial to but for your criteria you are better served with the 308. Some good choices for a quick handling rifle would be Remington's Model 7, Savage Sierra, Ruger Ultra Light and Browning Micro Medallion. I have had all four but preferred the Savage personally, but with choosing the 308 your choices are limitless. Of the four I mentioned there are no bad choices.

You'd never go wrong with a .308 for that kind of game. I'd get a Ruger Ultralight (or one of the New Ultralight Arms rifles, if I could afford it!!)

I am looking to buy a new fast handling bolt action in between the 243 and 300 mag. I want something that is comfortable to shoot and is suffcient for everything from whitetails, up to and including caribou. A couple I have in mind are the 7mm08, 308 something like that. Also I do reload, but I want something that you can find factory ammo just about anywhere just in case I am pressed for time and I want to just grab a couple boxes of ammo, zero and go hunting. I know you gun nuts can help me on this one.. Oh yeah one other thing. Synthetic stock is out of the question. I have synthetic stocked rifles. They are good in the weather, but IMO they are the ugliest rifles known to man. Either wood & blued, or wood & stainless is what I want
