Hey guys! What do I have here? Mauser 30-06..
Just picked this rifle up in a package deal, for it's age it looks very clean. I was thinking about having it rebarreled but wanted to run it by you guys first seeing I know nothing about it. What is it? What model? What is a ballpark figure on it's value?

The serial #No on the action, bolt handle and bottom metal al match. A36XX

Nice looking rifle you say it needs a new barrel. If I were you I'd put a new barrel on it.

DWM, Argentine Mauser, rebarreled to .30-06, restocked with a sporter stock from another rifle (note cutout for the trigger safety). Hard to see from the pictures what the barrel might be - militry or sporter??

I don't follow Mauser prices. The action is one of the better ones, and a lot less available now than in days past. The stock and the barrel are useful modification, but probably not vehicles for greatly increased value.

It's not rebarreled. They just rechambered the original 7.65x53 to 30-06. It was a common practice back in the 60's.

I believe you, but am somewhat confused. I thought the 7.65x53 used bullets of different diameter (.311 - according to this: http://www.chuckhawks.com/7-65x53_7-65x53R.htm) compared to the .308??

The stock looks very like the awful, horrible, "bastardised Weatherby" type stocks that Parker Hale used to fit on rifles for far too long.

I'think you've the better of the deal.

Somewhere there is probably a Parker Hale 1960's barrelled action out there in a 1909 Argentinian Mauser stock. Complete no doubt with a hacked about area for the Parker Hale side safety.

These 1909 Mauser actions are/were used by Holland and Holland and others.

My advice? If it shoots in 30-06 leave it alone, keep the foresight but replace the rearsight with something less "military", get a decent stock in "the London style", have the bolt bent, the charger guide ground, fit a 'scope on Redfield type swing off mounts and enjoy it.

And that Parker Hale stock? Make yourself "best friends" with a family with a wood burning stove. They'll be doing you the favour!

You're correct, but I think the Argentine military figured the bore sizes were close enough for government work.

Please don't do that... Send it to me, I'll pay for shipping. It just needs an "extreme makeover," that's all.

That .311" bore is why these rechambered barrels have a reputation for less than stellar accuracy.

In Germany, such rifles are scrap. The only usefull is the action, to make a custom rifle.

I would build a 9.3X62 with a new stock and rust blued with good NECG sights or even a 404 Jeffery or a 10.75X68.

And he will probably kill a lot of animals with it.

These days I see the bottommetal alone sell for 2/3's that.

I had one and called a .311-06 and it shot 174 gr Hornady RN (which are .312) like a dream.

Try several of the 303 type bullets to see what works best for you.
