TC1, I will agree w/ ya on the 150 grners at those velocities but, I think he will be allright w/ those 180s. The 180s just seem to hold together alittle better. Yea, you would get a few chuckles around here if you showed up to the camp w/ a Water Buffalo gun to take a little ole' whitetail. Good Luck! Reloader

Has anyone shot deer with 180 gr. ballistic tips out w/ a 300 wby or something that is pushing them about 3100 fps? If so did you like the performance, etc? Just curious. Thanks

I used a boattail once with my 300 Weatherby. The bullet exploded, and the deer died. Lots of bloodshot meat. I don't know how BT's would perform, but I think you should use a Nosler Partition. Much better performance and you won't be giving anything away trajectory wise. At that velocity, you are really pushing a bullets integrity. A deer isn't much of a test for a bullet, and it's going to die rather quickly either way. But I would still use a Partition.

They work wonders at a little less than 3000 out of a 300 Win Mag but, have not seen them out of the 300 Wearherby. I wouldn't hesitate in using them. You would get great performance on long range shots. At 2950 they work great from antelope to moose. Good Luck! Reloader

Quote: Out of over 30 head of big game that I have killed with ballistic tips at very high velocity and using lung shots, not one animal made 50 yards after being hit. Most dropped on the spot or within a few steps.I have also seen cases where a shoulder shot broke only one shoulder and a long tracking job was the result.
