Howdy All: Anyone familiar with the Mauser-Werke M96 rifles? I think made in the 1990s, straight pull bolt, marked on receiver 'Mauser-Werke Oberndorf', Mauser banner on barrel in front of receiver. Just wondering if this a switch-barrel rifle, what sort of quality they are, and what the rifles cost new. Thanks. The barrels do not exchange, they are moderate in quality-- not it the high quality of the M03 or for that matter the Mauser 66, ect. They sold around the 400 to 500 dollar mark. They were just imported a couple years in the mid or late 90's. I might by one in a 270 or 25-06 for 200 bucks if it came around Ed DRSS Member

Actually I believe you can switch barrels, as long as the original gun has right bolt head and right receiver & magazine length. Say 308 to 243, 06 family, or 300 winmag down to 7mm rem mag. I know because I bought one in 300 winmag the underside of receiver is split and is bolted together to hold barrel in.I was told tolerances were tight for bolt heads and other barrels so you could interchange them. But I will say chances of finding spare barrels or parts are nil. ps paid 550.00 for mine and it shoots 3/4 at 100yds with most ammo.

I have one as well,,in the same caliber. It fits me too a "T",,love the palmswell,,the pull is just right and the rig is a pearl to tote.I like it 'cause it is a non stressed reciever,,the head of the bolt lockin' in to the barrel lets ya' change barrel in the same head size cartridge wise,,,not as easy to do as a Saur 202,,but all in all a good $550.00 3/4" shooter NEVER THE LEAST DEGREE OF LIBERTY IN EXCHANGE FOR THE GREATEST DEGREE OF SECURITY
