I made it to the range last weekend with my new pre-64 Model 70 .30-06. I loaded up some 165 gr Nosler BT's over H4350 and Fed 210M's in Lapua brass. Accuracy wasn't the best I've ever seen, but it was definitely acceptable. My maximum load was 57.5 grs and at that level I was getting 1.5" groups at 100 yards. If that's all I can get, I'll take it, but I'm going to continue experimenting with other powders and bullets I can hunt with. I don't like BT's for hunting. I have a question about action screw tension. How much torque should I apply to the front and rear action screws? Also, what about that barrel screw? I think I might have torqued the action screws too much (especially the rear one), that's why I'm wanting to know. BTW, I didn't put much tension on that middle screw at all.

Winchester recommends 65"# for front and rear screw and only snug on middle screw (Middle screw only holds front of trigger guard and over-tightening can actually bind the bolt). My pre-64 '06 shoots 1 moa w/barrel band screw removed. Regards, hm
