Anybody familiar with MagnaPort? I'm looking at a 338 RUM rifle that had this done. I'm not concerned with recoil but I am about the noise. Does it make the gun really loud? "We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then is not an act, but a habit"--Aristotle (384BC-322BC)

MThuntr, Magna-porting is good stuff IMHO, Extra noise shouldn't be a factor in a rifle such as the 300RUM, It will help with muzzle rise a bit, Porting is way better than a brake. My shoulder is way stouter than my ears...Jerry

I had a .458 Win that was Mag-Na-Ported. The sound level was not at all even close to a brake. My buddy has a .300 Mag w/ an Answer brake on it and It hurts my ears w/ plugs in. When he shoots I have to put my hands over my ears. Any how I really couldn't tell a sound differece between my other rifles and the Ported one. I would do it again.

My .338 Win Mag and .308 Win M70 featherweight have been magna ported - resulting in greatly reduced muzzle jump and noticeably reduced recoil. If eithr of these is a problem for you, magna porting should help. NRA Life Benefactor Member, DRSS, DWWC, Whittington Center,Android Reloading Ballistics App at http://www.xplat.net/

I'd be more concerned about the muzzle BLAST...

I have had several rifles with brakes. They were all too loud... I now have a 300 Win Mag and a 375 H&H with Magna Port. I like it. Shooting identical barrels side by side, The MP takes the hard "wack" out of the recoil, and reduces muzzle rise. I do not fine them any louder in the field than regular barrels. I have a pre64 M70 fitted with a Krieger cut rifled barrel which has been MagnaPorted. There is some side-blast, but not that much. The porting seems to do better at reducing muzzle jump than in reducing recoil. Recoil seems to be not as sharp though. Didn't affect accuracy ... with 225 Barnes X's the rifle holds 2" at 300 yards on any day I can shoot worth a darned. I like it. Good deal. Thanks for the help. It sounds like it may actually be something worth looking into now. I may have to opt out though I just dropped $700 for tires on my rig. There went my spending $ for toys for a while. "We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then is not an act, but a habit"--Aristotle (384BC-322BC)

No. I had a MagnaPorted .416 and could not tell it from a standard barrel regarding noise level. MagnaPorting took the "edge" off felt recoil.

My Blaser R93 in 9,3x62 is Mag-Na-Ported. I can't feel a difference in recoil or noise but it redirects the recoil in a straight line with no muzzle jump. This rifle is used primarily for drive hunting (all running shots) where fast repeat shots are appreciated. I have 2 rifles with brakes witch I remove when hunting. I just use them when I sight in a load because then I use a bench. See my brakes unscrew they are threaded on the outside of my barrel.

I have two rifles mag-na-ported and am also a fan. Andre's description is dead-on accurate. analog_peninsula ----------------------- It takes character to withstand the rigors of indolence.
